The Quilt That Walked to Golden: Women and Quilts in the Mountain West--From the Overland Trail to Contemporary Colorado

Interesting look into the history of quilting in Colorado. Slightly dated.
I enjoyed this book. If you are a quilter living in Colorado, you’ll be able to appreciate the history. It’s worth noting that the narrative language used by the author shows their age and generation. The book is from 2004, so 20 years ago, and terminology regarding immigrants and minority groups has evolved. Younger quilters and readers will have to keep that in mind. It reads more like a book from 1990. Not a complaint, just an observation made for future readers. Would love an updated and expanded version!

Great for history buffs
The stories in here bring out a lot of emotion. It made me feel like I was right there with some of the women. I cried when they talked about losing loved ones along the trail and having to bury them wrapped up in a quilt. I bought this copy for a friend after reading at the library, now I will buy me a copy.If you like history, please buy this, it really connects you to the past in a way that a textbook filled with dates and facts cannot.

Beautiful Prose and Photos
If quilts are part of your heritage or if you are a contemporary quilter, this is the book for you. The color plates and vintage photos provide visual delight. The stories that accompany the quilts are warm, sad, happy and sometimes humorous. Not being a quilter, I can't evaluate the four traditional patterns offered at the back of the book. This books provides insight into our female pioneers who helped to open the west. It made me proud--and so appreciative of the quilts I've inherited.

Excellent history and quilter's resource
My wife is an enthusiastic quilter and I bought her this book as a gift. It's full of historical detail, anecdotes, and quilting trivia. It's a very satisfying book, with great photos, quilt patterns, and lots of detail. I recommend it highly.

The Quilt That Walked to Golden
The Quilt That Walked to Golden is an amazing look back at the memories and the hardships of traveling by wagon across the desert. It is a tale of women's courage and foresight. The copy I received was in excellent condition, well wrapped and delivered very much on time. I purcased the book through Amazon.

Another amazing book by Sandra Dallas
This is a great book telling various true stories of quilts that made it cross country to the state of Colorado. Various modes of transportation and the most interesting stories that intertwine with the lives of the women who made the quilt and the journey upon which they took. Very interesting read.

Quilt that walked to Golden
This is a book that I enjoy reading and savoring at my leisure. It incorporates a broad spectrum of mid 19th century history of those who treked to the west via covered wagon with a story of not only quilts but of the sewing that people did, including the Native Americans. The pictures of not only the quilts but of the people are terrific. Four patterns of traditional quilts are included. As always Sandra Dallas has provided a wonderful well researched resourse book, particularly those who are interested in the fiber arts and history.
