The Koren Tanakh, New Edition of the Koren Jerusalem Bible, Personal Size (English and Hebrew Edition) Hardcover – November 1, 2010

What I love about this Tanakh is that the translators transliterate Hebrew proper nouns. So instead of Judah you get Yehuda, instead of Egypt you get Mitzrayim, and so on. I also love having the Hebrew right there to refer to when I'm reading.What I don't like about this Tanakh is that it uses a more proper English translation. By that, I mean it uses "thee" and "thou" and "dost" and "hence" and what have you. Which really wouldn't have stopped me from buying it, it was just not something I was expecting. Also, as far as size goes, it is very hefty. It's small in height and width, but it's got some depth to it (not just spiritually). So it's small, but at the same time it's not. It's pretty thick and pretty heavy. I can definitely throw it in my backpack and take it with me wherever I go, but if you want a compact Tanakh, this ain't it.That being said, I still love it and use it daily. It's become my standard Tanakh for studying.

This book is spectacular. It has a nice, sturdy binding and with beautiful covers and text. Either side of the page has the English and Hebrew comparison of the text. The font is easy to read and the ink is nice and dark. It's very thick, so it's definitely not something you can just have in your back pocket. But the beautiful color and style definitely gives it a more special appearance. Definitely something I can imagine passing down to future generations.

I am very pleased with this book, with one exception, which I will note below. First let me mention how much I love it. It is beautiful and the translation is impeccable. I love the attention to detail and the fonts, both English and Hebrew are easy to read. One of my favorite aspects is the way that the names are transliterated Hebrew and not the conventional versions found in Christian bibles. I feel like this is truly a Jewish book and will become an heirloom for my family. My only complaint is the size--I wish it were bigger and the print was bigger. Even so, I do find it readable and highly recommend this book.

I think that this version is one of the best following along the same as the Koren Jerusalem Bible. This one has colored maps and some commentary etc. I only wish that they had published a larger version, as this is so thick because of its small size. Great to have in your collection.

I love the fonts and the translations. And, for most of the books of Tanakh, I love the 'technical excellence' that Koren applies to the t'amim (diacritical signs / cantillation marks / 'trup'). It reconciles the two requirements: (1) the sign is on the stressed syllable and (2) some signs are pre- or post-positive, i.e., they always appear at one end of a word. Koren repeats the sign over the stressed syllable when the word has a pre/post-positive sign. But they do not do that in the so-called Emes / Emet books of Job, Proverbs and Psalms. I wrote to the publisher asking whether they might address this, and got an irrelevant answer, something along the lines of "Well unlike English that reads left to right, Hebrew reads right to left".

Amazing style, translation. There are some common flaws from Hebrew to English, but it is most enjoyable.

It is as any other Hebrew bible its full and complete however they have stuck to the original names of the biblical characters and not westernised them luke they did with the new testament with Mathew, Mark ,Luke and John Because really how many people did you thing are actually called Mathew Mark, Luke and John in the middle east 5000 years ago and I have given it five stars as to give the word of god anything less would be rude

Very well put together! And as far as the English translation goes, I love it, especially the psalms.
