Screw Drive Carriage Pull for Genie Garage Door Opener 36179R.S 34107R.S

My (Genie) opener would only pull the door up but not down. Had a local company come look and wanted to charge $150 to fix, Searched through YouTube for videos with similar issue and found one with the repair instructions and part needed. Found this part here and swapped it with the worn out drive. Super easy.

So to start off it didn't work. Completely my own fault! I bought the wrong one.. But once I checked it out more and realized that if I took the worn (stripped) part out of my old carriage this one was the same piece inside. Once I installed the part into my old carriage! Worked perfect! This Carriage was good to go. No issues and looked just like the one I had, my own fault for getting the wrong model one. Would recommend. Also if you are replacing your carriage and you get the wrong one try putting the worn out part in you old carriage! Might just make yours like new!

I got this to replace the original carriage on my 15+ year old Genie garage door. I had the unexpected surprise when opening the garage door and 1/3 of the way as it was opening, it started slipping on the screw and wouldn't open all the way. I disengaged the old carriage with the pull cord and inspected the screw in that spot and didn't see any damage, so I tried to run the opener again to make sure the motor was still coupled to the screw and found no issues there. When I removed the carriage from the track, I found the engaging teeth to be stripped. I was lucky enough that a new carriage was able to be had and it was an exact fit!This saved me the hassle and expense of having to replace the entire garage door opener. Maybe I'll get another 15 years out of it!

Installation was straight forward. If you can follow directions you can do it.Magnet installed in the new carriage for the travel limit sensors seemed to be week. It would not stop at the up limit. Worked fine for the down limit. I stripped the old magnet out of the worn out carriage using needle nose pliers and slipped it into the new carriage and everything worked fine.

Took grease from the existing screw and slathered the new part up. Disconnected the rail from the garage wall, removed the old shuttle, installed the new shuttle backwards, removed the new shuttle, installed the new shuttle properly, reconnected the rail to the wall, the shuttle to the garage door lever, and then pressed VERY HARD to engage the new shuttle with the screw. Worked perfectly first time.

Installation went faster than I imagined, With the garage door closed I removed the clevis pin from the arm linking the trolley and the door then pulled the lever to free up the trolley from the drive screw. I undid the bolt holding the drive screw rail to the wall and lifted the rail and slid the old trolley off, slid the new one on, re-installed all the fasteners, and voila. The whole job took less than 20 minutes.

I really liked that this carriage fit my 21 year only Genie IS series garage door opener. The only thing I did not like, which is very minor, is that it does not have a label indicating which way it installs. At first I matched the original, but guess what, the professional installer had installed it backwards. After watching the installation video, that was easily fixed, albeit I had to readjust the limit switches. Works great now!
