MerrellWomen's Moab 2 Vent Hiking Shoe

Hardy and well crafted.
I've been testing these since 2019.They are near indestructible. Excellent knobby tread that has superb traction. They are fairly thin soles, and I can 'feel the terrain' through them- while still being very stiff and protective. Seeing as they are a hiking shoe, I feel this is important to note.Arch support is moderate to slim, but they have held their shape excellent and really never broke in. They really never required it- just a shoe actually designed for feet! My boyfriend wears them occasionally and they fit him great too. He can't feel any sort of impression where my feet naturally sit in the shoe.I wear them on hikes of course, but I also wear them to work occasionally as they breathe excellent. Whereas- my work boots do not. They are not meant for standing on concrete all day, and i find my feet a little extra sensitive by the days end.I also have very sweaty feet and my shoes tend to develop odor quickly. I was surprised at how resistant these have been to smell and have washed them a handful of times to assist with that.I only fault this shoes for lower arch support and a modest toe box. I have average width feet, however as a 'hiker boot' I wish these allowed my toes to expand more. I do overall enjoy them and would recommend! True to size, and I almost never get it right the first try!

Buy these for $75 or buy the Waterproof for $125??
Why do these, the Vent, look exactly like the waterproof ones, but are $50 cheaper?I did the market research.Comparing these : Merrell Women's Moab 2 Vent Hiking Shoe (Smoke) to the Merrell Women's Moab 2 Waterproof hiking shoe (Drizzle Mint)I use these A LOT. I bought the waterproof ones and loved them, wore them out.In May 2022, I bought these cheaper ones, the Vent, to see how they compared to the more expensive waterproof ones.Same size, 8.5W.In August 2022, I saw the waterproof ones for $93, so I bought a new pair.SPOILER: BECAUSE I PREFER THE WATERPROOF ONES.1. Out of the box, I wanted to, but I didn't like these, the Vent, as much. The shoe is longer and the toebox was very roomy. They felt too big, but still comfortable, even brand new. Almost returned them, but started wearing them instead. I wear them now, and I really like them. I wear it like a roomy shoe, slip on and off.2. Somehow, the Vent's sole support is just different. Maybe it's mental, but the more expensive waterproof ones felt more expensive.3. Over time (3 months, daily use), even though the Vent felt too big at first, they started to mold more and almost seem to shrink to my foot. I noticed that the waterproof ones also do this.4. Visually, I cannot see the difference between these two shoes, but the Vents were bigger and seemed a little less supportive.I shellacked my non-waterproof Vents from every angle with waterproofing spray from a can. In tall wet grass, they seep at the seams anyway, but water beads off on the surfaces. Verdict: damp sock.Personally, the waterproof ones have been waterproof for me, despite what many reviewers have said.I've stepped in the creek (not fully submerged) with the waterproof ones and had dry sock.Advice: if you don't have the extra $50, don't sweat it, order the Vents, but personally I would have ordered them a half size down. Overall though, despite the higher price, I do like the waterproof ones better.

Travel shoes needed
I bought these for a trip with cobble stone streets. I have been using them and breaking them in the last 3 times I went out for a walk approximately 3-4 miles each time. Really comfortable and no adjustment needed. They are light and well made. Arch support is great and the soles are really comfortable although I initially thought they would be hard to get used to. I will be wearing these shoes to walk from now on. I am really pleased as is my husband who got the male version of mine

Felt like walking on a cloud
I got these shoes prior to a National park trip in CA. When I tried them on, I literally said “it feels like I’m walking on a cloud.” They were so soft and comfortable inside. The second time I wore these was on a 17 mile hike and my feet were obviously tired, but they didn’t hurt from the shoes. I didn’t go through any real water so I can’t speak to how they’d handle in water or snow. I also tried Columbia hiking shoes, but these were the winners. No complaints and highly recommend.

Wow! I didn't know hiking shoes could be this confortable!
Before purchasing these directly, I tried three pairs of other womens hiking shoes through Amazon's Try Before You Buy program: Adidas Terrex, Columbia Crestwood (ankle height), and Eddie Bauer Thielson. My husband tried on different options, one of which was the men's version of the Merrell Moab 2. I was originally leaning toward the Terrex, but I just wasn't sold because they weren't comfortable enough. They were my top choice of the three tried. Then, I asked for his thoughts on the Merrell Moab 2, and I am so glad I did! He talked about how comfortable they were all around his foot and the fact he could really feel the arch support. As someone who has been wearing shoes with good arch support or adding inserts since 4th grade, that sounded perfect. So, I took a leap of faith and just ordered the womens version. The moment I put the first shoe on, I could tell it was a slam dunk. My foot feels surrounded by cushion on all sides. The arch support is pronounced, but I know my feet need it. Also, I've got a nerve between two toes that is pinched by scar tissue thanks to an old break. I've had to be really careful in the past year to find shoes that don't irritate those toes or make them go numb. The other three hiking shoes I tried definitely didn't feel comfortable on those toes and would have required a metatarsal pad (hate having to use them). Meanwhile, the Moab 2 hiking shoes do not. What a great shoe! For additional context, I'm in my early 40s and normally wear a size 8.5 or 9 depending on the brand. For these, 8.5 is perfect.

Pretty good value & sensible sizing
Most importantly, a pretty reasonable fit for the stated size. Many say these shoes are very wide across the fore-foot which was a reason for me to buy them as I have broad feet but I'd say they are about what I would expect from such a style in order to be functional. They are certainly not too broad unless you have a very slim foot. I suspect many budget priced shoes are just plain narrow - less material means less cost. These Merrell Moabs are broad enough for me & quite comfortable, if a bit hot in a heatwave, but then I suppose all such shoes would be.

Very comfortable
I was a bit concerned about the size when ordering these as some reviews were saying they were coming up big. I am a 5 and ordered a 5. I do have wide feet and they fit well. I have room to move my toes but the smaller size definitely would be too small.I have only just received them but they are very comfortable. Really pleased with them and the price was great!**update** I have been out walking in these over a few miles each time and they are really comfortable. I have enough room so my toes are not restricted but they do not feel too big at all.

fairly pleased
Arrived in good time. I have been wearing Merrell boots and trainers every day for work for over five years. They have always been immediately comfortable. Unfortunately, this is just not the case for these trainers. They are slightly too big and the raise for the instep is lightly off line. The soles do not seem to have much grip and I have nearly slipped over on a couple of occasions, walking along pavements and paths. Cant return as I have worn them, but I am slightly disappointed.

Comfortable walking shoes
I had my last pair of Merrells 13 years ago and they have only now become unwearable. I’ve tried lots of other brands but for me, it was Merrell that I found most comfortable and and fit my foot well. I was pleased to discover these on Amazon. They were a good price and I ordered them on the 7-day trial although knew immediately I was going to keep them. My first good walk was very comfortable and the shoes didn’t need any wearing in. I’m very pleased with my purchase.

Great shoes. Very comfortable!
I gave the shoes a trial "run" today. I couldn't believe how comfortable they are. I have wide feet and bunions and it's a nightmare finding anything to walk in which is comfortable. I am going for a 5 mile mountain walk on Sunday and I have the confidence to wear my new Merrells without the worry of blisters and foot problems. There is very good arch support which felt odd at first but I quickly got used to it! The quality seems excellent and they have really good vibram soles. I don't know if they will be waterproof but then nothing is in Crete rain!! I paid for expediated delivery and they arrived in 4 days thanks to quickly being dispatched and to DHL!
