Outstanding cook book
I chose this book for the simple fact that I like hotdogs. I think this is the first cookbook I have read nonstop cover to cover. Not only does Russell tell you how to create some wonderful dogs he explains the history of each variety. One of the highlights is how to make your own breads and condiments. Unbelievable value and highly recommended.

SO I PURCHASED THIS BOOK AS A GIFT. THE PHOTOGRAPHY CAUGHT MY EYE – THE RECIPES – WELL I THOUGHT I KNEW ALL THERE WAS TO KNOW ABOUT HOTDOGS AFTER LIVING IN NYC (NATHANS), CINCINATTI (CHILI DOGS), NORTH CAROLINA (SOUTHERN STYLE), AND ST LOUIS (GOOD OLE’ MIDWEST HOTDOGS). WHEREVER YOU LIVE IN THE COUNTRY, YOU WILL RELATE AND HAVE A FAVORITE “HAUTE” DOG. THIS AUTHOR IS SO CREATIVE! BEFORE GIFTING IT I SPENT SOME ENJOYABLE TIME WITH THIS BOOK. MOST COOKBOOKS HAVE PHOTOGRAPHS OF “SOME” OF THE RECIPES. THIS AUTHOR WAS GENEROUS ENOUGH TO TAKE A BEAUTIFUL PHOTOGRAPH FOR EVERY RECIPE! I DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU BUT I CAN’T GET EXCITED ABOUT A RECIPE WITHOUT SEEING THE PICTURE FIRST. WHENEVER MY FRIENDS AND I FIND SOMETHING NEW AND EXCITING WE CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT – WE BUY FOR EACH OTHER. I PURCHASED THIS BOOK, NOT ONLY FOR MY BEST BUDDIES BUT MYSELF. AND I CAN HONESTLY SAY THIS BOOK WILL NOT STAY ON MY KITCHEN BOOKSHELF VERY LONG. POTATO WEDGES ON A HOTDOG! COME ON! AND IT JUST GETS BETTER. WHEN I MADE THE GUATEMALA DOG FOR MY FRIENDS AFTER PURCHASING MY NEW SUMMER GRILL, THEY ALL SAID “THIS IS INSANE! THIS IS MORE THAN A HOTDOG!” WITH A SLOW NOD, I SAID, “I KNOW, IT’S A “HAUTE DOG”. new way for an old standard
Everybody loves hot dogs but who doesn't want to try a different style. This is the book for you. Sure the classics are there, Chicago Dog (with a recipe for neon green relish, a must for ChiTown Dogs) Coney Island, and Corn Dog, but then things get interesting with Spicy Thai Dogs, Swedish Shrimp Dogs, and various South American countries represented.There is a short history of the hot dog, 10 ways to cook the dog, and recipes for most of the condiments used in the book. Want to make your own dogs or buns (breads) it's all in this book.A keeper for my cookbook collection.

Great recipes and photography
The book is quite eye-catching which encourages you to try the recipes. I did try his basic hot dog chili on p. 153. It's good! I've got my own version of Greek sauce, developed over the years and No it's not just the cumin-he gives one of these too. His basic has a nice chili flavor and is good with cheese dogs. The pumpkin pie spices you put in Greek sauce can seem overdone and simpler is better for a change. He also gives recipes for homemade hot dogs and Polish sausage on which the health-conscious can improvise. A definite must-buy for the hot dog connoisseur.

Chili cheese dogs are still going to be the best
My main take away from this- hot dogs smothered in anything are delicious. There aren't any earth shattering revelations you'll find about how to church up your dogs but the pictures are pretty and if you're twisted like me and like looking at, and then reading about food, you will likely enjoy haute dogs.

Complete guide for hot dogs
Complete guide on hot dogs. Not only this book contains several hot dog recipes, it also contains buns, relishes, mustard and other sauce recipes. Plus, there are lots of recipes showing you how to make the sausages, which IMO is advisable if you have the resources (i.e., a sausage maker), the patience and time, specially taking into account that the average hot dog found on the market contains too many not-good-for-you additives and doubtful blends of homogenized meat.

The best hot dog book I read
I really love this hot dog book. It’s really informative about hotdogs and general various regional hotdog varieties. The best part about this book is that it has all the recipes (for sausages, buns and etc and condiments) if you want to make everything yourself from scratch. Personally I really love made from scratch BBQ sauce. I bought this book as gift for my friends in Ukraine (where hot dogs aren’t really popular food) along with hot dog bun baking pan. Hotdogs are delicious and something everyone can easily make as family/dinner party food. I am not sure if many people would make their own sausages but as far as I know sausages are available everywhere. I also really love corn dogs and this book has a recipe for corn batter. Great book.

as should you if you are concerned about building a better hot dog
As a new hot dog street vendor, I had hoped there would be something new that I could add that would set me apart from all the other guys.Other than toppings, this book had little to offer. A well written book, with much insight into the world of dogs, the book offered little insight as to what could be done with a simple hot dog, other than a few extra condiments. Support the author...he deserves his research and effort.I supported him, as should you if you are concerned about building a better hot dog, Best wishes and good eats.
