The 8612 is not 12 inches, it is 11”.
It’s sold as 12 inches Screen, compared to my previous 7012 is 1” smaller, it has 11 inches. This was a surprise that I didn’t like.

The engineers really screwed this one up. The size difference is substantial, not anywhere close to a 7612. It is 13.735 % smaller outside dimension and it is 11.45% smaller screen size. If you're going to replace a 7612 that's mounted in your dashboard you're going to be very disappointed, the 7612 outside dimensions 9x13 the 8612 outside dimensions 8.5x117/8 there's absolutely no way this can be a replacement it is ridiculous. To make things worse they've replaced the power cable so you need to run a new one that is so stiff you think of was a steel rod. We also need to replace the cable that goes to your auxiliary monitor. If you're mounting this with the enclosed freestanding bracket you're going to be mighty disappointed again the 7612 is 6 inches high and the 8612 is only 5 inches, 7612 bracket is 12 7/8 inches wide and 8612 is 11 1/4. Again the engineers really screwed this up if they were planning on this being a replacement for the 7612. Nothing is even close. Instead of being a one-hour replacement you better plan on at least the day by time to go find the cables you need and Rip your boat all apart so you can run the new cables .if I had not started I should have sent it back however I have a 7612 mounted just below so I have two screens that were flush with one another and I wanted the same look. What a job changing the placement of the mounting bracket which is smaller and then to discover the cables aren't the same not even a power cable. This is an engineering colossal screwup. I have been a Garmin enthusiast for 30 years but this is the end.
