Handy if you can accept the minor flaws...
While the plate is glass and the optical quality is fine, they are quite poorly made - unfinished edges and lots of minor scratches - and bear in mind that there are two separate lenses in the plate...which is very cool as you could have two different lenses in there is you so pleased :)The focal length of the lenses is 13" which is perfect for welding.

Made From 100% Genuine T-rash
Calling this thing garbage would be an insult to legitimate trash, everywhere. It's made of two pieces of independent plastic "lenses" and a plastic frame that may rival the whisper-thin lenses for flimsiness. I cannot imagine the scenario in which I could even mount this to my welding helmet. I don't think I could use a tape or tack without ripping this in half when I tried to take it back off. No chance this would accommodate a makeshift hinge. And while it is probably intended that you can hand hold it in place, that absolutely will not work for TIG welding, or stick welding, so that leaves an outside maybe to MIG welding. But even if you could hand hold this and not screw up your MIG weld by losing two hand control over the welding gun, then you are essentially no better off than you were without this thing, because it barely magnifies a thing, and only in the best of light. That assumes it can withstand being within a foot of the kind of heat a welding gun is going to generate. It's so flimsy, I fear it would melt. Maybe it will serve as a bookmark for my copy of Modern Welding. ...or three bookmarks when it comes apart after closing the cover.

MAGNIFY!
Although I wear glasses, a magnifier such as this one IS A MUST for all welders! A whole new world opens up when you magnify.
