Best upgrade for my V Star 250
Installed on my 2013 Yamaha V Star 250 and it completely changed the bike! Getting onto highways is much smoother, cruising around town is more comfortable and cruising at highway speeds is more comfortable too. Increased my top speed a little bit but the main goal was to increase the range of each gear so instead of having to be in 5th gear basically all the time, i’m now able to find usefulness in 3rd and 4th gears. 3rd and 4th gear have a lot of pull now, making it up to highway speeds at high rpms for when you need to get up and go with responsive throttle control. In my opinion, my bike should have had this sprocket from the factory. Much more control and it really unlocks a different bike and riding style. The sprocket itself seems to be made of quality material and the fitment was perfect.

virago 250 aftermarket upgrade
I purchased this 17 tooth front sprocket along with the 38 teeth rear drive sprocket for my virago 250. All i can say is wow. before installation the stock setup had a first gear that was mainly for beginners learning to ride, "a granny gear". This gear was so low that it required you to shift halfway through a turn. I read about changing the sprockets on virago forums in order to improve top end and overall speed, someone recommended 17x38 as opposed to the stock 16x45 tooth count setup. So after shopping around i found J.T. sprockets on amazon that would fit my virago 250. It is good to see improvement. The granny gear is gone simply by having the dealer install the new sprockets. I have excellent torque and acceleration in 1st through 4th gear. 5th gear is noticeably reduced in torque but still allows the engine to idle down at highway speeds. 4th gear will have torque and acceleration all the way up to 85mph, and the engine sounds no more revved up than with the stock setup. I can cruise on the interstate with good passing authority in 4th gear easily. If you don't mind downshifting from 5th to 4th gear "where all the high end torque is" in order to take a steep incline, then this set up is for you. Like i said, given that the bikes top speed is 90mph, 4th gear to 85mph-with torque and passing power-is all you need!

V-Star 250 modification
I gave 4 star because of driveability decrease, not quality of product. Standard sprocket on 250 V-Star is a 16 tooth sprocket. Put this on for mod decrease in RPM's at Hwy.speeds. Still able to climb most hills without downshift/did shave few 100 RPMs(You Can Do the Math,)but does affect intown driveability. Especially if you also downsize the rear sprocket. Did not need to modify standard chain length. This does drop the the RPMs but you may have to downshift to 4th gear on steeper hills, AND it makes for more difficult clutch engagement from "starts". This change can also be done with standard chain. With both changes, it DOES change starts and low speed drivability..

Perfect fit.
Exactly what I needed for my Yamaha XV250. +1 size from OEM. Should last darn near forever under the low torque of this bike. I have not changed the rear sprocket yet, still OEM size. So needless to say this was a TIGHT fit with the 114 link OEM chain, but I got it to work by moving the rear tire as far back on the adjusters as possible.

Did the 16T to 17T Swap.
I did the swap from a 16T to a 17T front sprocket and changed the rear from a 45T to a 38T sprocket. I can't believe how much of a difference it really made on the top end without a significant loss on the low end torque. If anyone is curious about doing the swap on a Virago 250, do it. If you are worried about the low end loss try going to a 42T rear sprocket. Both of these sprockets were considerably cheaper here than on D.K. or any other site I found. Especially considering shipping costs.

Quality product at a fraction of the dealer cost
I keep a range of sprockets on hand for different riding conditions thank god Amazon sells them for about half the dealer price

Good for the purpose
This fit my 1995 kdx200 but tore into the rubber on the chain guard just a little and won't allow me to re-attach the sprocket guard. That said it did what i needed and got the top end above 70mph on the bike. Good for street use and super easy too install even if all you have is a crescent wrench for the rear to loosen the chain and a small flat head screwdriver to get the "c" washer on and off.
