Mmmmmm
This would of been a good purchase as the content is good, but really Amazon, you should state very clearly in ypur descriptions that this is a print on demand book. I expected to get a first edition as advertised. The pictures look like they have been printed on an old laser printer from the 90's. This is not what I paid my money for. Clearly advertise please.

Baddest Bird on the Planet
OK, so my son being an Eagle Driver may disqualify me from being an unbiased reviewer. If you're an aviation enthusiest or like to read about historical aerial combat this book details each of the F-15C's 105 combat victories as well as all of it's combat lossess ... oh, wait, there have been been NO losses!

A wonderful account of modern air-to-air combat
Steve Davies has compiled the most up-to-date account of the F-15C operations in the last 15 years, changing many misconceptions that held for a long time. Although I had read about air-to-air operations in the Gulf War in the excellent book "Gulf Airwar Debrief", Davies' work is far more detailed and gives many interesting tips in modern tactics, especially in the little explored field of BVR combat. The reader will be surprised to find that not all the Iraqi pilots were inept and took Sparrow shots like sitting ducks, but fought with courage and even good tactical skill in some occasions. Davies also describes the reasons behind the great disparity of kills achieved by the 1st TFW and the other USAF units and also has a chapter devoted to the 1994 incident of blue-on-blue encounter when two Blackhawk helicopters were accidentally shot down over Northern Iraq killing all 26 on board. There is also a brief account of the kills achieved by F-15s during the Operation Allied Force (1999) and a good overview of the advantages and drawbacks of the new AMRAAM missiles (not all of these shots were succesfull after all!)

Probably the best Osprey publication I've read
Those familiar with the Osprey series will know that they have a deserved reputation for packing an awful lot into a small, compact and reasonably-priced volume. Their occasional weakness is that some titles are written by "jack-of-all-trades" authors heavily reliant on other sources and often containing factual errors, mis-titled photos and light on specialist information.Step forward Steve Davies. He has produced by far the most authoritative, factual, reliable and politically astute book in the Osprey series that I've read to date. It oozes authenticity, with extensive accounts of actual air combat written by the pilots themselves. The actual process of BVR air combat is accurately described, but in the sparse, urgent language of the combat pilot, putting the reader right on the F-15's wing.Davies doesn't pull any political punches, and will delight his target audience with the pithy evaluations of Saudi Eagle operational performances, the truth behind that "first kill of Desert Storm", and the disparity in kills between the "talk the talk" 1st TFW and the rampant "walk the walk" 33rd TFW.Davies uses his extensive primary sources (F-15C pilots) to their greatest effect, and communicates their respect for their Iraqi enemy, who often fought cleverly and bravely against their far superior foe. He also makes the F-15C the true hero of the book, paying great homage to a truly-world-beating piece of kit and its lethality and invincibility in air combat when coupled to an equally well-honed pilot. So far the worldwide F-15 kills/losses score is 105-0. Steve Davies' remarkable book highlights exactly why that is the case, and why the F-15C and its pilots should rightfully hold the World's Greatest Fighter accolade, period.
