Not a great film, in my view
I did not enjoy this film. But did I find it a compelling watch? Yes I did.The tension was maintained throughout. But what did it amount to in the end?It was beautifully filmed and acted, but I did not develop any empathy for, orindeed, any interest in, any of the characters. They say that the film explored the corrupting effect of 'money-lust', but I didn't feel any the wiser at the end.

The end made it - but I seem to be in the minority in saying that
(Contains spoilers) It's a hard watch, and no mistake. I had to view it in three blocks. I'd tried to watch it before and given up thinking "I don't have the resources to watch this". Tension & foreboding abound. And in the end there is no redemption, the good guy doesn't win, the bad guy doesn't lose. If I was cynical, I'd say 'life's like that'... but I'm not a cynic so I'll just admit that 'some of life is like that, cos life ain't like the movies'. The sheriff retires having lost the case, and finds himself still lost in retirement, because the world has changed all around him and he is now a stranger in a strange land. The bad guy doesn't get justice. The people who have your sympathies aren't rewarded. It's an un-movie-like movie in the trajectory of the narrative ark - which felt fresh. To me, the end made sense of it all. Touches of genius abound, like the way the death of the anti-hero is not shown, and his wife's death is only left implied. The film ends quietly, on a whisper, with a reflective story about a dream... Hmm, I'll be thinking about this film for a long time.

An excellent film, set in a wierd hinterland time. Highly recommend but the end fizzles a bit
I thought this was a excellent film with a brilliant, sadistic, villain who is relentless in his retribution. It’s set in the 1980 which give it a weird feeling of a homage to the western period without being of that period. Tommy Lee Jones is excellent as a world weary cop/sheriff who is coming to the end of his career and probably the best scene from the scene is where he visits his uncle Ellis and explains to him that he feels his time is running out. Ellis is elderly and has accepted that his own time has run out and tries to convince Tommy Lee that you can’t push back time. Overall it’s an exciting, thought provoking film which I have watched several times and I would love to give it 5 stars as for most of the time it’s up there with me for with the greats but the end, for me is very disappointing. It’s a wonderful film and please watch it but don’t wait for a climatic ending. Just wish they would make a sequel. My Dad, now sadly deceased, gave it his nod as good film too.

One of the greatest villians of all time
A modern classic!! Coen brothers out did themselves with NCFOM, bringing the microcosm of themes explored by Mccarthy to the screen. Fate, free will, conscience, greed... Its all covered here in the cat and mouse game that Llewelyn (Brolin) finds himself in. I wouldn't necessarily say its a film for everyone, it's a tension builder rather than an action thriller, however my family are a mixed bunch when it comes to films and it's a firm family favourite. Everything is on point, the acting, directing, script, cinematography. I'd say similar films pace-wise are 'There Will Be Blood' and 'Hell or High Water' for comparison, and you can tell that great care and attention was put into every scene.

What a wasted 2 Hours!
After watching this film, I looked at the reviews because I could not understand why it had such a high rating! I kept going back to check I was actually reviewing the same one. Yes you could say it was filmed well, and had lots of action and was good acting. But when the main character was just eliminated (sorry for the spoiler) as a passing moment that you didn't actually see, and then eventually it ended with no point to the movie, it basically left us feeling let down... I'm sure Tommy Lee Jones must have only been in it to give some sort of credibility! So as you can tell I was very disappointed with this Film.

Classic thriller - great acting, great production, great direction
This is one of the best films I’ve seen for a long time. The acting was superb. The three lead characters were clearly defined and very different. Javier Bardem as the psychopathic multiple killer Anton Chigurh was quite outstanding. Almost every time his face changed expression, the hairs stood up on the back of my neck. The story basically is about a man finding a suitcase full of money and deciding to keep it. Simple, straightforward stuff. Almost every scene builds up to a blood stained climax or a narrow escape. The minor characters are well done too. Mrs Moss played by the lovely Kelly Macdonald was charming and Woody Harrelson was excellent as a rational hitman. My only problem with this film is the ending which lacked resolution (as others have pointed out). In one way, this is not important - there was never going to be a ‘happy ending’ and justice was never going to be done. In fact a happy ending would have been out of place and probably ruined the ‘existentialist’ message of the film – which seems to be ‘life is a bitch, get on with it’. Be that as it may, I was left unsatisfied at the end, which may reflect more badly on me than on the film. All the same, because of the sustained brilliance of the direction, script and film making, I would strongly recommend it.

compelling watch
I want you to ask yourself what you would have done when you saw the first big "issue", I would have called the cops, this is where it turns, I ofund myself thinking why the F** did he do that!, I found it a strange film, odd really. I love film that Tommy Lee Jones acts in, and he was great as usual, infact all of the actors were top notch, but the ending left me wondering WTF!

No country for old men, a cracking but violent movie.
A very good film that kept me on the edge of my seat right the way through. The plot of the film is, a guy [ Josh Brolin ] comes across several vehicles and dead bodies in the desert, the result of a violent shoot out.He finds among the carnage a case containing a large quantity of money, which he takes with him. Then for the rest of the film he is constantly on the move with the money, playing a game of cat and mouse with his pursuer played by Javier Bardem. Javier is great playing the part of the quiet but violent pursuer of Josh Brolin. This film is not for the faint hearted as it does contain quite a bit of bloody violence, a cracking good film.
