WHAT'S NEW?
Often referred to as "Madison's War." Madison was already primed with the initial victory of the Brits in 1782, so he felt the obligation to continue the policy of defending our rights against any nation. The British had been teasing us ever since the Revolutionary War ended. Remember that the British ruled Canada and the sea. So the US had to flex its muscles over fishing rights, import and exports , incursion by the Brits into our territories and just being roughed up by the powerful Brits. It was our conflict to win or lose. We chose to win it.This was Madison's legacy the same as thr Revolution was Washington's.
