Scenes for Teens: 50 Original Comedy and Drama Scenes for Teenage Actors (The Young Actor Series)

Exceptional Selection of Scene Material
I like this collection very much, and I believe that teenagers interested in the acting profession will like it very much too. My favorite aspect of the book is that the dialogues all feel very real, grounded and authentic. There's no over the top, screaming, high drama scenes here, so if you're looking for that stuff, then look elsewhere. But these scenes are clean and real with good pacing that is well suited for acting class practice, rehearsals and scene study.

Outstanding Collection of Scene Material
I love the naturalness and sense of casual, realistic conversation we see throughout this collection. At first read, I initially thought I would like to see a bit more conflict written into these scenes, but I've changed that opinion after sitting with these scenes for a while and watching my teenage drama students work with them a bit in the classroom and on stage. I believe the overall intent of the author is to provide the type of "informational" scenes that work well as "backstory" to help actors flesh out theatrical scripts on film, television, and theater. In this sense, the material succeeds in a subtle but powerful way. I think it may not be for everyone (especially those who prefer heavy conflict and over-the-top dialogue), but I like this collection a lot and so do my students. I think this book may actually be breaking some new ground in the field of theater education for students because of the subtle nature of the dialogue and the positive imagery and subtext throughout. I believe it would be invaluable for training young actors for several reasons, but mostly because it will help them to focus more effectively and avoid going over-the-top with their dialogue and performances.

A Fun, Classy and Educational Learning Tool
“Scenes for Teens” is such a delightful and creative book for young actors. It is crafted together with so many engaging scenes that are not only fun and original, but allow for the actors to really stretch their talent and creative skillset. It is refreshing to see how Mr. Kimmel has taken the time to build an actors tool that is put together with style and attention to detail, from front to back cover. His extensive knowledge and vast body of work as an actor, translate so well into each scene. It’s a welcome learning experience with the turn of each page. “Scenes for Teens” is an inspiring and classy compilation of exciting and thought provoking scenes that can do nothing but enhance the development of every aspiring actor. Thank you Mr. Kimmel!

Great book for teens (of all ages!)
I purchased "Scenes for Teens" for my niece who is 17. She was so excited to receive this as a gift. The scenes are very well written and entertaining as well. We had a lot of fun reading through some of the scenes together. Not only are they great for teens, but the adults enjoyed them, too, and each one has a special fun and inspirational or educational message. Prior to now, there has been nothing like this geared toward teens, so it is definitely filling a need, and since it is written by a very experienced and versatile actor, we know the scenes are actually good tools for the trade. Love it!

Exactly what young actors need ...
This scene book is exactly what young actors need for effective, long term training in the performing arts. The dialogue is clean and reflects the type of "one-on-one" conversations that typify natural, everyday, back-and-forth conversations actors will be called upon to perform on stage and screen. Right on target. This book really hits the mark for young actors and their acting teachers. It's a nice change of pace from all those over-the-top "screamer scenes" typically selected for youth in the performing arts training schools. Real world material always works best in training. Trust me. This one is it.

and it has given her a good starting point in acting
I bought this for a friend's teenage daughter, and it has given her a good starting point in acting. The format is clear and easy to follow. There is some fun, light-hearted comedy material, and then there are also some weightier scenes which will give teenagers something a good deal more serious to think about. Particular standouts are the scenes "Rehab" and "Adopted." All in all, thee's a very good variety, and it's a book I'd recomend for young actors.

Don’t recommend
Quite disappointed with the scenes in this book. My kids could have written better scenes with more interest and depth. There is nothing in here to stretch their acting muscles. Way overpriced for what you get. Don’t recommend this one.

Nice variety of scenes for students and teachers
Very good actor's training book, and written in a conversational, informal style. Nice variety of teaching and practice scenes for teenage students and their teachers to choose from. A+
