Beautiful book. Quite a stiff binding, not exactly the coffee table book I was thinking of, but will be added to my bookshelf and glad I purchased it.

This is my favorite of the general field guides to marine life offshore Alaska to California. It's portable, affordable and packed with useful, accurate information. Buy one for home and one for your dive vehicle!

Ok I studied Marine biology and dove for over a decade around the world, mostly BC west coast. This book rocks and is great for all levels! I owned the previous version and loved it. Obviously not every species is in it but it covers a wide variety, both scientific name and common, with images, if its harmful, some edible tidbits bits and identification. Bought this book for my husband's best friend and one for our boat/beach combing with our little ones. The guys can identify what the heck some of the species are when they deep sea fish Prince Rupert, Vancouver Island and Oregan. Leaving for the coast this weekend...look forward to see them using this book for a reference.

Although this book is a classic and is a must-have for any West coast ocean exploration, it doesn't contain everything you will see. The pictures and descriptions make it easy to identify most creatures.

I use it as a reference on the boat, pictures are very good and enough text / description to be useful - not just taxonomy but includes habitat notes, some behavior etc. Good "boat book"

I love this book so much. I was reading it on a trip to Vancouver island with my university and I had to have my own copy. Excellent info and tons of great photos.
