I live in an older home that had two RJ-45 phone outlets added to every room. Unfortunately, not all of them were wired correctly at the 66-block (distribution terminal), so this product's transmitter just plugs into the outlet I'm looking for and the sensor probe picks it up as I move it along the block at the other end. It's pretty easy to tell by the lights and the sound when you've found the wire you're looking for. I can't believe it was so inexpensive and that it works so well! If you're a pro, this won't be very satisfying, but as a homeowner who would pay more for a service call than the price of this product it was a deal. It paid for itself.

Got this to locate the live wires from a light switch to the correct wiring for the vanity. (there were a ton of wires, and mislabeled wires). This worked perfectly. My only complaint is the longevity of this device as the plastic is real thin and could easily break.

For the price I feel this is a great product. However, the build quality is terrible and I feel like it will break after a few uses. I do not recommend using it if it’s for your profession. That’s said, for some light use around the home it can be incredibly useful. It actually has tons of features and was accurate enough to allow me to trace a phone wire. Great buy for it’s price if you only need it for light use. If you need something better I recommend buying one that costs $100+

Bought this to test some cat6 new runs I pulled. However, the switch on the side that turns on the led inadvertently turns on the light when you slide it into the pouch. I didn't notice and then a few days later wondered why it stopped working. Turns out that this design flaw resulted in me draining the battery. Since I don't use it regularly I can live with it and just remove the batteries after I'm done, but I think I'd be pretty annoyed if I needed this tool regularly. Other than that it works reasonably well for me.

Whether you're in the IT industry, like myself, or just need to easily figure out which network drop goes where in your office's network closet... this tool will more than pay for itself in time and frustration saved.I now own two of these. I'll be purchasing more when I hire additional technicians so everyone has one always available.I have used these units to test cables that I crimped myself (both CAT5e and CAT6) and to figure out which cable in the network closets of my clients go to which office. One of my pet peeves as a network tech is when nothing is labeled and no network map exists! This will help you quickly end that frustration. The toner is loud, but has a volume wheel. The case that it comes with is a little tight, and if you're not careful, you may end up turning the on-switch on for the LED light. But inserting it that way basically points the light right at you, so you should notice it and be able to turn it off instead of draining your 9V battery.The only "con" that I've noticed is that the battery compartment door's clip on one model is slightly "off" and I have to wiggle the door while closing it to get it to latch. But batteries won't need to be replaced often on a tool like this. Given the low price of this tool, I won't knock a star for construction quality.I'll be buying more of these...

Nice, simple, easy to use, works well, good functions, reasonable price, built well. Have used more expensive tone generators in the past. Bought this for home. I like it just as well as the fancier and more expensive units.

Product arrived as advertised and on time. Package was in great shape. Unfortunately the product did not work because battery contact were you put the 9 volt battery were not making connection at all ( I could see that the wires were not soldered to the connector plate properly.I had to return it for a refund and purchased a model from Dr. Meter and am awaiting for it to arrive
