So nice, We bought it twice!!!
We bought a few puppet making books but this is the go to!! It has brought my son and I together! Nothing in recent memory has engaged him more than puppet making. A testament to that is the fact that I’ve bought two of these books. One to keep at my place and one for him to keep at home with his Mom!

Subversively brilliant and fun
Sock Puppet Madness gives you easy-to-follow instructions to make 35 of Marty Allen's signature sock puppets (from his web video series as well as his portrait photography). However, it's not just a how-to book. The biographies that Allen provides with each of his characters reminds readers that they are making *characters*, not puppets, and that these characters can have lives of their own in your imagination. Imagine being introduced to all the guests at a bizarre cocktail party, and being so engrossed with their personalities that you don't realize that there's someone else's hand up their backside. That is what this book is like.

Memory Lane!
I grew up in a time when making sock puppets was common way to create a beloved toy. Sock Puppet Madness brings back so many good memories! I am going to use Marty's ideas for an after-school enrichment class in my school. He has so many good ideas for characters that connect with the younger generation. His great sense of humor makes the reading of the instructions a ton of fun!

Our entire family from 6 years to 70 years did this project over Christmas vacation. We had a blast and the puppets were incredible!!!

A bit hard to read due to font.
A jolly book. The use of a non standard font in an effort to make the book look jolly, make it a bit hard to read. It's not as easy to do as I'd expected - that could reflect ,my lack of craft talent rather the book. Lots of creative ideas.

Sphoorthi Reviews
Sock Puppet madness by Martyn Allen is a book with colourful pictures of sock puppets. The cover and the back page of the book is more attractive than the inner pages. The author has given the description of 35 characters that can be made with the socks in less time. Congratulations for that. Each kind of puppets has its own limitations. Similarly, is with sock puppets.Nevertheless, when going through the cotents-Part-1, Part-2 and Part-3 from a construction point of view, not a much of differences is found except for some activities that have been added in part -3. Again, the puppets look more like rag dolls kind ( Looks more of making out of trash). There are better puppets one can make using socks than mere trash kinds. The price os the book is slightly higher when compared to the information given.Sphoorthi Theatre for Educational Puppetry, Art & Craft-STEPARC
