HLB Reviews King
I really like older guy romances, especially when the age gap is more than 10 year, which is why I picked up this book. I must admit I was more than a little leery when I saw the "Daddy's Best Friend" clarifier, because mostly it makes it sound kind of skeezy and skeezy just isn't my jam.I'll admit the book had some promise in the beginning. When you meet Jordan for the first time she is in a state of transition, her best friend had just died and she is obviously having some big feelings about this. Especially since these two clearly had some serious issues, Jordan was seriously co-dependent and the best friend was more than a little bit manipulative and emotionally abusive. She goes home to her parents house after the funeral and meet King, her dad's old college best friend and new business partner. To be honest I don't understand why this book was marketed as a "daddy's best friend" book when King and Jordan's dad interact once during the book and it was only at the beginning to facilitate the meeting, other than that it's not like it was ever really an issue or anything. Most of the book takes place in France, in Paris actually, which was fine, it was interesting seeing how Jordan got around in a country where she didn't speak the language. But honestly I have massive issues with this book. It moves really quickly, which basically means there is not a lot of character development. Yeah events happen that impact the characters, but its almost like the author is just giving you a play by play of events, not taking the time to let you get to know the characters at all. Also time jumps around pretty often as well, like say Jordan and King have a fight, suddenly it's a month later and they run into each other. It's just not organic in any way. Also there is a storyline in this book that I felt could have been interesting if the book had been fleshed out more. Jordan's best friend wasn't just emotionally abusive, she betrayed her in a big way, and it takes a while to have it all fully revealed, and I won't ruin it for you here. But the thing is this betrayal follows Jordan from the very beginning of the book, before she is even aware of it, and then of course when she finds out the is the aftermath. The storyline was such impactful thing for Jordan, and in a lot of ways it was just glossed over, and when it was dealt with in the book it wasn't convincing, I just didn't buy it.This book really needed to be fleshed out, character development was massively needed, as well as some serious pacing issues that needed to be worked through. At the end of the day this book just did not work for me.

Believing in one another's strengths
Jordan is a college student home to attend the funeral of her best friend. While she comes into her house she hears a voice that belongs to King an old friend of her dads. Jordan has always tried to get his attention as a young girl. Once King sees her for the first time as an adult he wants her. A conversation about going to Paris comes up and he gives her his contact information should she be there and need anything. Once he knows he will go after Jordan does he hire a PI to find out about her and he discovers a unthinkable part about her life. It takes him some time to realize that she does not know and does not let on he knows but makes himself a promis to be ther for her when her life falls apart. This is a very unquie story of an older man and younger woman. I felt so bad for Jordan when the truth was revealed and what she had to go through from someone who was to be her best friend. King shows her nothing but love and protects the best way he knows how until it comes out he knew and never told her. Jordan leaves and tries to start over, she even cuts and changes her hair color. Once she feels comfortable she agrees to go out on a date and it turns out to be horrible and she runs away and ends up at Kings place. They make up and agree to deal with the problem together as another person has started to main steam the videos and is also doing it to others. I loved the way they became a sting loving couple against all types of challenges. I voluntarily received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

Weird romance
THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS. PLEASE STOP READING NOW IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO SEE THEM.The heroine Jordan is a whiney college student who has absolutely no self confidence whatsoever. She's weak and very naive and allowed her best friend Kelsey to lead her around and make every decision for her. After Kelsey is killed in a car accident, Jordan learns that Kelsey installed cameras in her bedroom and bathroom and was streaming her private moments live on an online website to make money. I had a hard time buying into that plot and a harder time trying to understand why Jordan didn't immediately act to shut it down. The hero Raleigh King is a forty something year old successful businessman who was best friends with Jordan's dad in college. King is at their home when he sees Jordan and is immediately attracted to her and wants to be her protector.Although I wanted to know how this story ended, there were a number of chapters I struggled to get through and had to skim. Jordan is immature and not a likeable character at all. If she's not feeling sorry for herself, she's being bi$chy to someone and is annoying. King didn't act anything like a grown man worth millions and I found it hard to understand why he was even attracted to Jordan at all. Other than meeting her parents at the beginning, nothing is really said about her being the daughter of his friend so I wouldn't even consider the story to be taboo. It was just a weird romance about a younger woman and an older man.Obviously this was not a favorite of mine, but there are other readers who did enjoy it.

Great book
There was so much going on in this book that this was definitely a page turner. You have a best friend who has done some really shady stuff to another. Then you have a knight in shining armour, or is he. He may be older then the girl but he is willing to do anything to protect while others want to use. Jordan and king are made for eachother and between each other they can beat the odds.
