The Complete Guide to Border Collies: Training, teaching, feeding, raising, and loving your new Border Collie puppy

Mansplaining tome with poor editing
On the back cover is all you need to know about the expertise of the author, and his ability to give you "complete" information about Border collies: "About the author: David Anderson lives in Minnesota with his wife Rebecca and their puppy 'Buddy.' . . . Through the trials and triumphs of raising Buddy, David has learned what it takes to be a successful puppy parent and has a passion for sharing that knowledge with other dog owners." The photo of their family shows Buddy: who is NOT a Border collie!Okay, so the (young, white) dude gets a puppy, learns some things about it, and thinks he can write a "complete" book about Border Collies? You'd be better off going to McCann Dogs online, where you can get information from a multi-generational border-collie training family with a multi-decade business in training dogs. Also, the editing of this book is very sloppy. In one case, he quotes someone saying, "Give the command once, and then make them do it. Do repeat the command over and over until they do it. The single most common mistake is not making the dog do what it is told." Excuse me? I think you meant to say "Do not repeat the command!" I might have been confused by this quote, except that it is typical of editing errors on nearly every page.Don't waste your money.

Very discouraging book
This book is very discouraging. We bought a couple Border Collies and while waiting until they were old enough to bring home wanted to read up more in the breed. I'm glad I didn't read this before choosing a dog as I probably would have chosen something different. The book had some good information but it's not very detailed and words things in a negative manner. There are other books on Border Collies our there that have better information and don't word it to discourage you away from the breed. Wish I could return this for a refund.

Common sense
The first part of the book is selecting a puppy which I did not need . The rest is too trite. Nothing I did not already know/ I do not think it really specializes on the breed.

Nice Comprehensive Presentation
Very nicely written. Hard to get everything in about Borders in a small book but this book does a nice job.

NOT a complete Guide to anything.
i bought this book two weeks before i brought this little ball of energy home, it says consult a vet more times than i cared to count, so why did i buy this book, if it takes no responsibility for what is in it, the Author passes the buck and only give the broadest of explanations on everything 129 pages of fluff, save your $$ and get a better book i had to.

Not Impressive.
The fact that this book slipped through our letterbox in a slim amazon cardboard envelope, should warn anyone thinking it's a 'complete guide'. More a magazine size than a book selling at £15+. Before returning the book I looked at a couple of the headed paragraphs and the knowledge also appeared shallow. One such paragraph seemed to advocate bathing your border collie one or more times a week, if it's wet weather. Might suit the American Market.

Good Advice
This was purchased for a friend who was getting advice from everyone and his dog as to how to look after his collie pup. I thought this book would provide a definitive guide and help avoid the sort of advice that ends up confusing one man and his dog. I was right, the friend loves the book, has found it useful and is putting the tips into practice.

Excellent
Great book esp if you are thinking of getting a collie or have one already regardless of age - highly recommend has helped me understand my collie pup and how to help with certain breed specific behaviours
