Will stand the test of time
I own a couple of semogue brushes, and I got to say that these stand the test of time. I have had this brush since 2019. They only get better with time. They get softer and the ends start to split(which is what you want.) As a person who has been wet shaving for 20 years I don’t think I’ll use any thing else. -Husband

stiff? yes, amazing, yes yes
People are buying a $19 boar shaving brush and complaining that it is stiff and poor quality. I have been using old fashioned shaving utensils for over 10 years now, so here is the response:Boar bristles are meant to be stiff, that is how they come off the animal, and why this brush is a great latherer and exfoliator. It will soften over time (the ends will split), and it can be prepped with ice water baths for a day or so before use, which is what I did to speed up the break in process. After a year of use, it is still stiff, but not in a bad way, give it a few months to break in, the scratchiness will go away.It is my favorite brush, I like it better than some of the best badger brushes that I owned (I had a Simpson best badger brush that was pretty nice, but I would still buy a Semogue Brush if I could only use one, or if I was buying my first brush). As for longevity, this brush has lost less than a half dozen hairs over the past year (which is normal for most shave brushes). It is holding up excellently, and when I eventually replace it I will go up one whole level to the Semogue Owners Club.

My go-to brush
I've been using this brush daily for the past four months, and it's worked really well. I have been DE shaving for around 6 months. The brush itself appears well made, and the bristles are pretty long, giving it a good bit of backbone. Additionally, the handle is shaped well and fits my small (for a man) hands very well. In the four months I've used it, it's lost maybe four hairs. I've not had the massive shedding issue from some other reviews. Also, I didn't pick up a strong "animal" smell from this brush, but I grew up on a farm. Your mileage may vary. There is definitely a break in period for this brush, as it starts pretty stiff and a little rough. However, I have enjoyed the exfoliation that this brush gives. I also use hard shaving soaps, so the rigidity of the brush really helps the lathering process. I've found that the brush holds a fair amount of water...I just place it in a bowl of hot water while I'm in the shower, and it's ready to go when I get out. There is no stand for this brush, but I found a YouTube video and made mine out of a metal shirt hanger I had from the dry cleaners.I'm very happy with the purchase and will replace it with an identical one when it wears out. If I were to switch to shaving creams instead of hard soap, I would consider switching to a badger or horse hair brush.

Yep...that's Boar. Quality issues.
Definitely smelly at the start, but the 'scrubbing' action is really nice. I could see how it was pulling a stronger lather with my Cella soap. I've been using a silvertip badger brush for about the last year and it is really nice with creams. Soaps are working pretty good, but I wanted a more ridgid bristle brush for really pulling some soap onto the tips and working it between the hairs. So far so good. I haven't put it to the face yet as I'm breaking it in on my palm first. Trying to get the smell out and it is diminishing after about 5 lathered rinses. I can see this brush really developing into a favorite.Update about four months after purchase...Well after two months the epoxy holding the hair cracked under normal use and the head of boar hair fell out of the handle. After two attempts first with regular and then marine epoxy I was unable to repair the brush. I tried to make it work since the boar hair had broken in so nicely. I will look for an equivalent boar brush, but probably not from Semogue. Perhaps Omega instead.

Very densely packed brush with great backbone!
Just got this brush in today and started breaking it in. The first thing I noticed is how much more densely the boar hairs are packed into this brush compared to my Omega pro 48 and 98 brushes. I love my omega brushes but I've noticed after a few years my 48 though silky soft is a whole lot more floppy than it used to be which is OK but I personally like a soft tipped brush with good backbone to get that great scrubbing action. I like boar brushes because they load soaps - especially hard to load soaps like Mitchell's wool fat and some Stirling soaps extremely well and of course they have more backbone and are drastically cheaper than a good badger. This is the smallest boar brush I own but at first blush it looks like it could dethrone Omega as my favorite brush but time will tell. The handles fit and finish is very nice and ergonomic albeit a little plain looking.

A well made brush
This brush is a very nice piece for the price. I was unsure of boar hair but after about a week or two the scent went away. I have been using the brush for about a month and a half and it has broken in nicely. At this point the brush has developed split ends and is getting softer every time I use it. It lathers some of the hardest soaps I have in no time. Solid construction, soft, and lathers good.To help with the scent I left the remaining lather on the brush overnight.

Great Brush for Straight Razor Shaving
This was my first boar brush after using badgers, including silvertipped ones. Other reviewers were correct that there is a break-in period for this brush. The bristles feel a little tough and do not hold as much lather for the first 5 or so shaves with the brush. Once the bristles start to split a little, the brush becomes nicely soft and hold smore lather. Once broken in, this brush rivals expensive badger brushes. The bristles are firm, massaging the beard area and lifting whiskers pre-shave, while not being irritating. This massaging effect to quite superior to my silvertip badger brushLikewise, the reviewers were correct that it takes several shaves for the brush to shed the musky, boar odor. By about 10 shaves, the odor is completely gone, thankfully. One important tip: for best results, soak this brush in water for several minutes before shaving. This bristles need to absorb some water before you use it.

Good quality stands the test of time.
I find this to be an excellent shaving brush. Firm, yet soft on the skin. If treated with care, it should last for years. Top quality worth every penny.

Excellent value, excellent performance. What more can you ask for?
I love the Semogue boar brushes and the model 2000 is another of their greats. If properly pre-soaked the boar bristles soften up beautifully and produce massive amounts of slick, beautiful lather. The Semogue boar brushes out perform many badger brushes that cost 10x the money or more. Excellent value, excellent performance. What more can you ask for?
