Kettenhund!: The German Military Police in the Second World War

Amazing, must-own book.
This big is incredible, simply amazing. It is easily, hands down the best and most authoritative book available to date on the german military police or Feldgendarmerie of world war two. It a well made book, well researched and has a treasure trove of information, much of which has never been seen before outside of state archives in Germany. The pictures and files contained, of which there are many, are also unique and of high quality. I highly recommend this book to all who are interested. These were proud men doing a difficult job that someone had to do. Seldom liked and often under appreciated, whether policing supply lines or fighting partisans, they were in fact detrimental to the success of any operation. During the great retreat from the east, these men risked their lives to ensure that others got through alive. Sepp Häusler refused to jump on a truck to save his own skin because other lives depended on his manning his post. As a result, he never made it back to Germany and died in Russian captivity. This book pays no specific homage to Sepp Häusler but if you want a detailed and authoritative understanding that contains great pics and references, look no further.

The best part is it tells what happened to each formation
Kettenhund, I have read on other book about the German military police and it was just a paper book and gave a quick overview of this military formation, but this book goes into some details with the many different types of German military police forces deployed throughout the German occupied countries. The best part is it tells what happened to each formation, this is sometimes omitted from books. Excellent book worth every cent best book on this subject so far. Pictures and maps show German badges and unit’s deployment. Another good portion is the training and deployment units made to specific areas and what their mission entailed. The best bookon this subject

A Military Police (Feldgendarme) Reference book
I expected more about military police operations in this book. Instead, it's a book about insignia and organization with loads of photographs of soldiers, medals, pay books and the like. Lots of information about insignia and how it changed as the war progressed. There's information about police units in the Waffen SS, Luftwaffe, Kriegsmarine and the Army. This is basically a reference book. My guess is that police work is pretty routine and that military policemen didn't have the extraordinary range of experiences that combat troops had.In an effort to get my one question answered, I wrote to the author through his publisher. No reply. Specifically, I wanted to know if there were any documented cases of German troops fighting with military police units at the very end when the MPs were hanging so many soldiers. The closest I came to that kind of story was in the book Panzer Leader, where the commander of a recon halftrack encountered military police on the road and tried to run them down rather than submit to questions and potential arrest. The halftrack charged the roadblock and burst through. As a reference, this book is comprehensive. As a "battle book," there is very little here.

Excellent Dealer Terrible Reference Book
This book was produced as cheaply as possible: Considering that this novel would only be of interest to, Collectors and Historians: Why use the cheapest possible paper.
