set it and forget it.
I got this dog feeder because I work long hours and I wanted to be able to feed my dog in small portions throughout the day. The auto feeder can be powered by either battery (not included) or power cord (included). The feeder came installed with the larger portion paddle which feeds at 10g portion increments but also includes a smaller paddle that feeds at 5g increments. The paddle is held in place by 6 screws and is easy to change. You can program up to 4 different meal schedules throughout the day. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, 4th meal. You can program the time of each meal and the portion of each. So for example, you can say Breakfast 2, lunch 1, dinner 1, 4th meal 2. that would mean 20g breakfast, 10g lunch, 10g, dinner, 20g 4th meal (that's if you're using the larger feed paddle) You can turn off any of the 4 meals anytime you like. So breakfast on, lunch off, dinner on, 4th on. etc.. There's also a manual feed button also. you can also record sound/voice/music so it plays during feeding time. The auto feeder is pretty simple to operate. The build quality is solid and it's great for when I'm out on vacation.

Cats are ALLERGIC to the plastic bowl
Couple issues here, but I'll start positive. This feeder has allowed me to feed my cat a bit at a time throughout the day.On the other hand, this feeder has serious drawbacks. 1) The feeding tray / bowl is PLASTIC, which cats are ALLERGIC to. I spent 100$ at the vet today sorting out the rash on my cat's chin, after ~ 3mo of feeder-use.2) The feeding options run 1 - 40, and there is no down arrow to adjust the portions. Even after swapping out the large-portion setting for the small-portion setting, I use no more than 3-portions at a time. If I want to dial that back for a given meal time, I have to cycle all the way thru 40 portions pressing a little button on the feeder. That's just annoying.3) Using the wall-plugin option for power means that if it's unplugged/power-resets/jostled, the meal times / quantities reset. Then I have to cycle thru all 40 portion-options to adjust my cat's feeding schedule. I haven't put in batteries because I'd like to avoid re-setting all the portions.Overall I wish I had spent even x2 the price to get a feeder with 1) a ceramic / stainless steel bowl, 2) a remote, and 3) a re-chargeable battery.Save yourself the vet bills + frustration and get something a little better.

Nice looking, tight sealing unit that works well.
I love having this for my cat since he had the tendency to over eat until he vomited. The three small feedings I now give him through the nighttime and morning has stopped that. He also no longer wakes us up at 4:00 a.m. for more food. The unit was easy to program, except for having to convert from military time. The food comes out easily and accurately. I am pleased I have it plugged in plus backup batteries in case the power goes out. This unit is large enough for several cats or a small/medium sized dog, as well. It holds a lot of food.

GREAT! Until it isn't!
I found the setup easy, instructions easy to follow, beautiful machine! Now for the ISSUES! The chord for the beautiful white machine in our mostly white kitchen is "BLUE" plus it sticks out of the back of the machine making it IMPOSSIBLE to place it even close to the wall. Okay, so we placed it sideways along the wall, looks a little dumb and to program or change programs you have to move it. NOW for the biggie!!! It is "IMPOSSIBLE" to change to the smaller feeder using the include instructions!!! "IMPOSSIBLE"! Whoever wrote these should have stayed home that day! They have absolutely NOTHING to do with this machine! NO six screws to be found. There is one and it does nothing to allow you to remove the larger tray! Someone posted a picture of the top open but there's no instructions on how to make this happen! For fear of breaking the thing and losing my money, I am returning it! I will go elsewhere for another feeder! Shame because this was so easy otherwise?

Excellent automatic feeder!
This makes timed feeding easy! We had a different style feeder that the motor blew on after about 5 years of use so decided to try something different. I love that you can control the portion size easily, it’s been reliably dispensing food 4 times a day since we set it up a couple months ago doing exactly what it’s supposed to do. My only complain it that I wish it had some sort of optional separator or different tray so both my cats could eat at the same time. Our older cat patiently waits for our young cat to finish eating before he starts eating because she pushes the food all over the tray. Sometimes she eats all the food so we have to give him extra from the hopper. If it had an optional divider or a tray that tapered the food off in two different directions that would be ideal! That would be my only complaint!Edit: we have now bought 3 of these for all 3 of our cats. They work great. They have the smallest portion size that I could find for a reasonable priced automatic feeder. We needed very small portions since we feed 4 times a days and it’s hard to find small portion size and 4 programmable meals. These are just perfect for our needs!ALSO our youngest cat is constantly trying to reach up inside to get more food and while she sometimes gets a few bits from the next unemptied portion behind the “curtain” inside, it has stood up to her constant abuse and still dispenses perfectly!

Just what I needed. Raccoon proof.
Bought this to feed a feral cat I’ve adopted who lives part time on my front porch. Really tough & durable. I’ve witnessed raccoons wrestling with it several times. Tonight, one managed to separate the bottom feeding bowl, but still didn’t get to the food. Highly recommend.Follow up: After a year and a half of perfect operation, the batteries died. I replaced them, but the hopper isn't working, though the display and voice memo are. I tried to open it for cleaning, but the two sections don't budge. I thought some food must be stuck, so I cleaned what I could reach with a toothbrush and ran hot water through. Still no movement. Anyone have any suggestions?
