Under the militia system employed by Switzerland, only about 5% of the country’s land and air forces are professional soldiers. The remainder is ordinary citizens. Swiss law stipulates that these citizen soldiers keep all their personal equipment, including weapons, with them at home. This unique provisioning requirement, coupled with Swiss precision and ingenuity, has resulted in a wide variety of military equipment becoming popular with Switzerland’s citizen soldiers, who in turn introduced their favorite tools to the world.Everyone knows about Swiss army knives. These versatile tools were invented by Karl Eisner in 1891, when he discovered to his dismay that the pocketknives supplied to the Swiss army were actually made in Germany. To remedy this embarrassing situation, Eisner came up with a better knife, putting blades on both sides of the knife using a special spring mechanism that allowed him to add additional features like corkscrews and screwdrivers. The Swiss military forces also took advantage of Switzerland’s watchmaking heritage and adopted a uniquely durable and functional wristwatch for their citizen soldiers. These Swiss military watches were distinguished by a large readable dial with oversized numbers and a simple, durable case. Like the Swiss army knives, these Swiss military watches quickly became popular with hikers and outdoorsmen around the world, because of their practical functionality.Today’s Swiss Military Calibre brand wristwatches pay homage to the original Swiss Military designs with a wide variety of functional styles that prove once again the value of form following function.Swiss Military Calibre men’s watches feature genuine Swiss quartz movements, with case diameters from 41mm to 45mm to accommodate today’s desire for a larger, more substantial case. The collection is available in many styles, including popular diver and chronograph models. Swiss Military Calibre watches are water resistant to 100 meters and feature a durable mineral glass crystal and hardened stainless steel case. Each watch is fitted with a stainless steel or silicon rubber band, depending on the style. This unique collection brings the proud tradition of Swiss military watchmaking and functional design to a new and younger audience. The company is committed to maintaining the high standards set by previous generations of Swiss military watches, while maintaining a price point that will keep the watch affordable for a wide audience. This is something that Switzerland’s practical and frugal citizen soldiers would be sure to appreciate.

Add some (Swiss-made) color for very few $$
I decided to add an Orange dial watch to my collection, preferably w/o paying a lot of $$$ for it. I purchased this piece based on its description, appearance on the photos and its attractive price, and without knowing anything about the brand.I went through two of these pieces. The first piece showed a little bit of damage and probably was someone's older return. I sent it back and ordered a replacement. The second piece was in good shape. If you opt to order this watch, inspect it carefully as there may be a few older returns floating around. On Amazon (and other websites which sell these watches) the brand is shown as "Swiss Military Calibre". I couldn't find any official information on "Calibre" and could not locate Swiss Military Calibre website. The watch came in a good looking box which showed "Swiss Military Hanowa" logo, and with a manual which also said Swiss Military Hanowa. Swiss Military Hanowa does have a website, but none of these Calibre watches are featured there. So I am not 100% sure if I should trust what it says on the box and on the manual. It's worth noting that the first (damaged) watch came in a different box, it was smaller, didn't look as nice, and said "Swiss Military" without the word "Hanowa" on it. If someone could confirm that Calibre is in fact a product of Hanowa, that would be nice.About the watch itself. The first thing I noticed is that it was quite a good looking piece, better than the photos were able to represent. The shade of orange is very pleasant and not outrageously bright. The stripes add some flair, and the bezel has an elegant, not at all primitive design. The bracelet is of good quality, with solid end links. Next, I noticed that the watch looked s bit small for the 44mm case size that's specified on Amazon and other websites, so I measured it. The actual case size is 41.5mm. It is 44mm only if you include the crown, which should not be included in the case size measurement. If you are looking for a large looking watch, this isn't it, it is rather on a medium size.Overall, I am quite happy with this watch, it's very good for the price, although I wish it really were 44mm in size.

THE DISCRIPTION AND PICTURES WERE VERY ACCURITE. THE PERFORMANCE IS YET TO BE DETERMINED, BUT IT APPEARS TO BE GOING VERY WELL AT THIS POINT. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS ITEM TO ANYONE.

Swiss Military Calibre Immersion Watch
This superb watch with the orange face is made by Hanowa in Switzerland. The case is made from fine-brushed stainless steel with a nicely contrasting polished bezel. The generously-sized bracelet is also made from a combination of polished and fine-brushed stainless steel. The orange guilloché dial is beautifully designed and nicely sets off the luminous hands and stainless steel hour markers. This watch is a handsome beauty. I cannot fault it at all.
