Prong bent the first time this was used
A garden fork is for digging and lifting things out of soil. One of the prongs on this one bent significantly out of line literally the first time I put it into soil and tried to lift. I am a 5'4" 72 year old woman, not from Krypton. I do not usually bend steel with my bare hands. This item is garbage.

Love this spade!
Beautifully made. Not for use as a crow bar, but for digging in prepared beds in tight spaces, this specialty spade is terrific. Shame on people who use shovels like they are pry bars. Shovels are for digging and turning dirt, not cutting roots, and being used for prying hard pan.

Great Fork - Poor quality Spade
I purchase both the Spear & Jackson Stainless Steel Border Fork and SpadeThe good :-1. Stainless Steel2. Nice wooden handles2. 10 year guarantee3. The size and weight (light and small) was great for wife gardeningThe bad :-1. The price was over $50.00 each ( not too bad for good quality tools)2. The spade has a number of flaws both on the blade and handleI have always thought that Spear & Jackson produced high quality toolsbut no more, both the flaws where created in the manufacturing of the productthey are very easy to see and should not have passed a quality inspectionon a $50.00 spade (perhaps there is no Quality Control)Finally perhaps the old brick and mortar business still have benefits,I would not have pick a spade with the flaws in a local store.Without the flaws I would have rated both at 5 Stars.

Love this tool.
Great spade, just like I grew up with in England. Smaller blade makes digging in confined areas possible, and far less cumbersome than a digging spade. Neighbours are amazed when the see the glint of the stainless steel, they are used to rusty looking tools while they are brand new. What a sublime way to keep up and surpass the Joneses!

Consider your options. It’s smaller than you think.
It’s not from England. It’s not well made. Very light duty.

Chinese made tool
I was expecting a high quality tool. I had borrowed one similar to this and loved it. I was thrilled when I found this one. When I got it I saw the "Made in China" tag. It looks like it was put together with welds and there was attempts to grind the welds smooth. Despite that it does have an acceptable finish. Also the picture show what appear to be round tines but these are square which will make a difference in how it performs. I only gave it a 3 star rating because the handle is loose. I had rather work on it than send it back. Next time I will order the tools that are advertised to be made in Germany even though they cost about a third more.

Quality really does pay! 👍
Earlier this week, I bought a bargain spade, and hadn't bargained for it being unsuitable for digging!🤦♂️ - So I bought this one in its place, and gave the jelly-spade to a neighbour. This spade is brilliant. It has a small head, turned over at the top to give your boot better purchase. - And it really will lever out even wet clay-filled soil.It still leaves me breathless after a few minutes however, but that's down to my fitness rather than the spade's fitness for the job.Recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

It a well made and sturdy product, worth every penny!
I am a petite lady and was looking for a smaller and lightweight garden spade.First came across it at my local diy store and really liked the size and weight of it but thought it too expensive. Then later browsed Amazon to find it at much lower price.Would highly recommend this to the ladies!

Spade broke whilst digging garden soil
This was the second time I used the spade for digging up garden soil. The photographs don't show the break too well. I wonder if it was a (rare) manufacturing defect as the reviews are pretty good for this spade and when I first used it I was impressed by the build quality. Left it too late to ask for a replacement/refund thus I have to leave this negative review.

Terrrible dont buy a spade with a wooden handle
Thought I was buying a good product from a reputable manufacturer in just under a year and not used many times the handle snapped. I complained to Spear & Jackson (it is supposed to have a ten year guarantee ) did not even get a reply. Much better to buy a spade with a metal or carbon handle.
