TROPICA - Mastic Tree (Pistazia lentiscus) - 50 SeedsWorth knowing: The evergreen, robust and decorative sclerophyllus plant produces small leaves. The aromatic mastic resin, formerly processed into plasters, mouth wash and tooth filler, is obtained from this pistacio. It is easy to care for, very decorative as a tub plant and ideal for bonsai design. The plant develops small, round-shaped, red fruits turning black in colour later on. Origin: The whole Mediterranean region and on the Canary Islands. Propagation: Ideal time for cultivation lies between October and May. Leave the seeds to soak in water at room temperature for 12 hours and plant them 0,5 cm deep into moist cultivation soil afterwards. At approximately 20°C, the seed germinate after 4 to 6 weeks. Place / Light: The plants love bright to full sunny places and warm, protected areas. Care: Permeable soil, rich in nutrients, is ideal as a planting substratum. Water only moderately. Waterlogging will make the plant shed its leaves and the roots might rot. Supply the pistacio with tub plant fertilizer every 3 weeks from April until October. The plant can be kept at a desired height by pruning. Young plants can already be pruned lightly to encourage a bushy growth. Pests are very rare. Winter period: Plants positioned outside should be taken inside once temperatures have dropped to 5°C, since they do not tolerate frost. A bright winter spot at 10° to 15°C is important. Do water only sporadically now (about every 4 weeks) and pay attention to mealy bugs during periods of air dryness. Bonsai Suitability:
