Using zip-ties helped make installing easy and allows for adjusting to accommodate for the optimum solar angle. You can see how I did it in the photos.The interface is easy and has nice options, there is nothing to it.You will have to locate your moisture sensor in the right place so that it doesn't become immediately wet and turn off the irrigation system.Even though there are compression rings in all of the couplings we also used teflon tape to make extra sure we didn't have any leaks from the always on hose bib to the unit itself.

I have assembled this unit and have tested it for a couple of weeks. It is working just fine as programmed. I set it to open the valve once every 2 hours for 1 min if soul moisture is below threshold I set for bypassing watering command.My 3 negative comments are related with the mini solar power panel. 1st - there is no assemble bracket and you will have to find out a way to secure it to the wall, fence or wherever you have in mind. 2nd - The built in panel cord while not short, could certainly be 1 or 2 ft longer and 3rd - unit has no indicator showing that panel is actually charging the batteries.

Unit did not work. It sounds great - but the directions are overly simple, unclear, and obviously written by a non-english-as-a-first-language person. The device and the solar panel are not adapted for mounting. Mounts for each need to be designed and built by the buyer. Batteries did not charge using the solar panel and there was no apparent indication of charging status. Great concept - well conceived - poorly designed. Very disappointed - I sunk many hours into setting up the unit with nothing but aggravation.

I am a vegetable gardener, and thought this product looked interesting for automatic watering when your veggie plants are getting dry.Unfortunately, the instructions which initially came with this product were minimal. The product is missing a basic diagram and instructions on setup. There are instructions on how to use it, but this assumes you already have it hooked up. Fortunately the company was responsive to this critical review and sent me new instructions via email. I was at last able to get the device to connect to my hose nozzle so I could begin testing.Unfortunately, I found when I connected it to the hose in my back yard the plastic fastener on this unit leaked profusely spraying me in the face as I attempted to follow the directions on configuring the device. I worked on this for 25 minutes, but I just found myself frustrated and gave up. I think it would be easier for me to water my plants by hand.I will give the vendor props- they did include batteries which is a nice gesture, and were nice enough to send me an updated manual.

The moisture control works great.After I set it up by moisture control mode (I did not use timer mode), it waters by moisture level automatically without any attention. Saves my trouble when to water my plants and flowers. When moisture level of soil is lower than dry moisture level, it starts to water and shuts off until either moisture level reaches wet moisture level or pre-set watering time. The instruction says it detects moisture level every minute. My observation confirms that.Also, recharging battery by solar panel is another great feature that I love. I do not need to worry about changing batteries. It takes a while for the solar panel to charge enough to get it started.Highly recommended.

This product works pretty well for the container plants in my garden. I spent about 30 minutes to set it up and it worked as advertised so far.Here is a list of what I like about product :- Easy to program. There are mainly three settings we need to do (1) the dry level which indicates when the watering will begin (2) the wet level which indicates when the watering will stop (2) max timer which will stop the watering once the time is reached- solar panel for powering the solar batteries. The unit can also work with regular batteries if the solar panel does not work out for areas which do not produce enough sunlight.- moisture sensor which provides continual monitoring and displaying of the moisture level in the containerWhat could be better for this product :- The instruction manual is not written very well and hard to comprehend- The lengths of the solar panel cable and moisture sensor are limited which make it difficult for containers placed far away from the faucet where the unit is mounted. One alternative to get around this is to use an extension hose to connect this unit but then mounting would be a challengeFor those who want worry-free automated watering of their container plants, this would be a good product to considerUpdate : 8/7/13- have been using this on my Bonsai plant for a couple of weeks. So far it is working as advertised. I do need to adjust the dry level once to make sure the soil stay moist.

The entire unit died after 31 days. value to shutoff the water flow fails to close or whatever controls the moisture control. Even though the moisture control shows moisture at 72%, it shows that it needs water. I even put it in a bucket of water (100% water I would assume), and it still shows 72% moisture. Also, programming water cannot go below 2hrs. At best, it's as good as hose extender since it does not do anything but as an extender.
