Medical Practices of the Hill People
This book was bought for a friend, who, like me is interested in some of the old folksy medical customs . It was a book that this person found very entertaining and enlightening. We found that the information was brief and to the point and readily understandable and accessible. A good read on the subject.

West Virginia Native...Interesting Read
I was born and raised in Appalachia and grew up hearing my family talk about a lot of the practices discussed in this book. It has been interesting to read about the orgins of these practices, as well as about others I might not have heard of before. Great read! Glad I ordered it!

Very Interesting Read!
Thorough and not at all disrespectful, I thought. Coming from the region, I recognized the history and the humor of these people. I also recognized the Folk Medicine. Some I have tried, and some I would never have attempted. I enjoyed the read immensely.

Just what I was looking for
I'm doing research into late 17th and early 18th century Appalachia and this book is full of very useful information. The book gives insight into the history of medical practices in Appalachia, but also the how and why certain practices came into being.

Scholarly but very accessible
I got this book for research, but it was also a very enjoyable read that I would recommend to anyone even remotely interested in Appalachia, herbalism, ethnomedicine, or folklore.
