Excellent book and method
Excellent approach to teaching the Faith. Develops a personal relationship with Christ at the very beginning. This can be missing in traditional catechetics. If religion classes yield only an intellectual understanding of God and the basics of the Faith ("book knowledge" only), the student can easily drift away from the practice of the Faith. Religion becomes an intellectual exercise only. By the teen years you begin to hear: " I don't want to go to church any more. It's boring. I don't know even if there is a God." If an intimate, personal and prayerful relationship with God hasn't developed in childhood and adolescence, agnosticism or worse is likely to blossom. The program outlined in this addresses this problem superbly. Setting up the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program can be challenging, but it will yield tremendous results--both in time and eternity. We are starting the program this year at our parish after carefully observing an ongoing program in a neighboring city.

For churches thinking about implementing CGS
This is a great practical guide for churches exploring whether or not to implement The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. It discusses issues of catechist training, physical space recommendations, how to introduce and expand the program, and the effects of CGS on both the children and adults of the parish. A few sample lessons and letters to families are included so that you can see first-hand some of the "nuts and bolts" of the program.

Great for parents and parishes
So glad I found this on Amazon because I couldn't find it at any local bookstores. Short book with short chapters. Easy read with practical ideas for parents or parishes learning more about Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. I recommend it highly. Worth the money!
