Works great as an all-around kitchen knife; outstanding value
Though this 8.1 inch knife is advertised as an outdoor knife, it makes an excellent indoor kitchen knife. It comes extremely sharp and effortlessly cuts through meat and vegetables, making a joy out of what I consider normally a pretty mundane task. The knife is thick enough to be sturdy, thin enough to make easy cuts, and long enough to slice through a whole ham or pot roast. The clip point seems more at home in an outdoor or fighting knife, but enables the knife to make precision cuts, such as when removing small pieces of fat from meat.I bought this knife as a gift for my dad, who does commercial-grade BBQ, along with a 5.8 inch and 3.6 Mora knife. The idea was that he could use the big 8.1 inch for slicing through briskets and rib racks, and the other two for smaller work like trimming fat, but he prefers this one above both the others because he is still able to do precision work with it. He now uses the 8.1 inch knife almost exclusively over all his other knives. At a current Amazon price of around $27, this is an absolute steal for a razor-sharp, European-made knife. A chef's knife of equivalent quality and utility will cost you at least $100. I promise you will not regret buying this knife!

Long and sharp
It's a great knife for cutting meat or cordage/rope. Very flexible because it's thin and this makes it very light. Very rust resistant unlike carbon steel. Very comfortable in hand. Very long blade. Very very shiny. Would make a good all around boat knife. You could sharpen a thick stick with it but it is almost too flexible for that. Unbelievably sharp. Would make a fearsome fighting knife - fast, long and sharp with a sure comfortable grip. Definitely not a prying tool or heavy use knife. The sheath is utilitarian but very well designed and fits the motif of this blade. I do wish it was just a bit thicker but in trade you get an unbelievably light carrying knife and sheath. Awesome knife that'll handle 99 percent of challenges it'll face in the real world. I'd say the knife will be damaged if it's used to pry, dig, or chop. Cuts like a magic wand through flesh and fibers.

inexpensive can't believe it doesn't cost more
Mora knives for a Swedish company, makes a solid took for the outdoors. I've owned Ka Bars, Cold Steel, Buck Knives, Leatherman's, Victorinox, Benchmade etc. My first knife was a Victorinox when I first became a Boy Scout. My father is a hunter and an avid outdoorsman. Over time we've purchased custom knives from Frank Gonzalez or Chris Reeves which are expensive to say the least. Over the past 25 years we've owned cheap knives (you get what you paid for) and expensive knives.I first learned of Mora Knives from a week long Bushman style survival school me and my father enrolled in out in Flagstaff. Our instructor, including a co instructor who is military for the Danish Army, swore up and down about Mora knifes. It has an almost cult status with them and we were skeptical that some of the times they would talk about using a knife as a tool and picking the right one for the outdoors almost seemed like an infomercial. We used our Cold Steel and Ka Bar fix blades but we were very impressed with the Mora's during our time in Arizona. The ones they used was called their Bushmasters series which was a shorter blade than the one I'm reviewing here. it ran around $15 to $20 depending where or who you bought it from. But from what I experienced the knife was durable and sharp yet VERY light weight. Holding this knife in your hand and you wont' think much of it. It feels light which gives it a sense of cheapness, don't be fooled. The knife is RAZOR sharp. There is some flex in the blade due to its thinness but you can use it for typical light duty work. This one that I bought was the largest I could find on Amazon and since I'm new to the brand I don't know if this is the largest that is available from the company. Either way I bought this as a Christmas gift for my father thinking he'd be tickled by the idea of owning his first Mora knife. To my surprise he also got me a Mora as well but the Bushmasters from one of his knife catalog companies but of course he paid more than what I did I'm pretty sure.Looking at this knife I got my father, it makes me think its good for filleting fish or butterflying meat like we do our BBQ in Texas but this knife is so much more and you can do a lot with it. Will update this post over time as to how the knife holds up.

Another great addition to my Morakniv collection
Well, first things first - this is not a bushcraft knife! For people worried about edge retention, this is something all Mora's present and after you initially sharpen the knife 1-2 times it will remove any imperfections. This is the case with companions, classics, etc. as well.Comes very sharp like most Mora's, but they can all be sharpened much finer. YouTube search How to perfect your Mora if this is a concern for you, but I find standard wet stone and sharpening tool experience to be sufficient. The multi-sandpaper method is best for Mora companions designed for bush use.I use mine primarily for meat processing such as venison, beef, etc. alongside a Japanese high carbon steel fillet knife - it makes for a great pair. The 8" blade feels a little ridiculous for anything else, but it's very useful when doing larger jobs / working with bigger cuts of meat such as roasts. The grip is the best of any Morakniv I've used; I'll likely buy the smaller model at some point. The sheath is nothing fancy but does its job fine. This is handle heavy, not blade heavy - not designed for chopping, it's designed for cutting.Looking forward to using this knife this deer season for processing, it did a great job last season!

Mora knives are extremely high quality for the price!!!
This is a lot of blade for the money!!!! It’s hair shaving sharp out of box and will slice and cut perfectly. Will out do knives that cost 10X the cost. It’s thinner but razor sharp. Extremely light weight, I doubt it’ll be a great chopper.
