Elizabeth WurtzelBitch: In Praise of Difficult Women

Great book.
Smart author. Sometimes maddening but brilliant take on the take-down of strong, independent women by designating them as bitches.

A Must Read
I read this book in college and remember that it changed how I dealt with people. It works.

frenetic but very clouded
Wurtzel is an extraordinarily gifted writer but has a chronic inability to form coherent arguments. She makes some great points but drops them in pursuit of other topics, leaving the reader with little idea of what, if anything, she means to really say. Wurtzel's stellar introduction melts into a combination of erudite arguments and self-absorbed mellodrama with enough decent filler in between to keep one interested. A good read, but far from perfect.

Mind opening and life changing for me

Disjointed and definitely difficult
As a radical feminist, I was pathetically amused and enraged by this book. It does not celebrate women's strength or struggle, instead finding glory in the consolation prizes of temptress roles and the like. As a reader, I was intrigued but confused. It's easy to lose your place - the author is very clever but harder to stay with than a mechanical bull. I don't think any book i've ever read has given my facial muscles such a workout: i'm sure someone watching my expressions as I read would have been the more entertained of the group. Now that i've learned it was written during a drug binge, I understand it better and can get some sleep. We can do better.

Disappointing!
As a fan of both Wurtzel and of feminist literature, I bought this book with a keen enthusiasm to delve into the author's views on the topic of "misbehaving women" throughout history, which is essentially what the book is all about. But I certainly wasn't expecting to be confronted by such a gruelling and uninspiring piece of work. I was seriously disappointed. Wurtzel seems to go off on many incoherent tangents whilst hardly making any valid and interesting points. What I was ultimately looking forward to turned out to be somewhat of a chore. The only reason I've given this book two stars rather than one is because I've always enjoyed Wurtzel's writing, but unfortunately there isn't anything positive to be said about this book of hers in particular.

It came through quickly and I quickly discovered that it was a waste of money
I wish I hadn't bought this book. It came through quickly and I quickly discovered that it was a waste of money. The writer clearly has some issues which she doesn't mind sharing with the reader. It's just unfortunate that the reader doesn't care and that the title is apt in describing the writer.
