Moon Sand 130-011 Soft Moldable Sand, 20 lb, White

I bought this to put in the Step2 sand table for my daughter's second birthday. I purchased two 20 lb packages but wish I only put one package in. With two packages it makes it a little harder to play with and no space for the castles to sit on a semi flat surface. The sand is very clumpy which is great when building but then not so great when the creation needs to be set down. This sand is great for molding but is a bit too sticky for digging and sifting is impossible. Think of it more as playdoh because it really holds its shape. You will have to take some time and work the sand apart when you take it out of the packaging. The great news I s that there is no dust because of how sticky it is so no worried of inhaling it.Since it is so sticky it does make it harder for a two year old to play with with a shovel. They really have to work to get it out of the clump. My daughter loves to use her shovel and so gets frustrated at how much work it takes to pull a shovel full of sand out of the pile. I would think a three or four year old would get more enjoyment out of this since that age they can manipulate sand molds easier and can sculpt things.We've only had the sand set up for about two weeks now outside so I can't comment on how well it lasts and holds it molding properties in various weather or over time. I am happy with it overall and would recommend this sand over traditional sand in a heartbeat.Edit 2/24/2017When this sand gets wet it takes a while to dry. We have forgotten to close the lid or rain managed to leak through the lid. We usually drain it as best we can and leave the lid off to air out. Even after two years of use it is still the same quality as when we bought it but just a bit dirty. Since this sand does not sift you cannot clean leaf litter out of it. I am looking to buy more for our sandbox this year since it worked so well. With use over the years the sand we have left is easier to dig into but we buy sturdier shovels for my daughter to use with this sand- dollar store ones won't cut it even now. Our sandbox with this sand has been outdoors and usually covered with a tarp for the past two years through snow, rain, ice, humidity, and hot weather and has held up great. Again, I would recommend it. If it was a tad softer I would like it even more.

Very happy with it. I can't verify that it is actually "Moon Sand" brand. (Reviews for some other similar products were upset that it was not the actual brand.) This comes in plastic bags with no brand name on them. Just a bunch of warnings about how to properly use plastic bags without injuring yourself.It comes in four 5-pound bags. Similar in size to the bags of brown sugar from Sam's Club. You'll have to work the sand for a while as it comes stuck in a brick. It gets softer as you work it.It's great to play with. Hard to describe how it feels. You can mold and shape it like wet sand, but it isn't wet and doesn't stick to your hands. Soft, a little squishy... Hard to explain, but feels cool, fun to play with.20 lbs is a lot. I put 5 lbs in a plastic tupperware casserole container, probably about 10X16", and that works pretty well.

We purchased a large amount of this sand to fill the bottom of a small preschool-sized pool. It was the activity we used as an Olaf "summer" station as we welcomed the children at a preschool-aged "Frozen" birthday party. The sandbox allowed the children to play together until all the attendees arrived.We purchased some inexpensive, tiny sand buckets and tools to use in the sand. The sand packs well, allowing the children to build small castles with their buckets. They also enjoyed just packing in with their hands and digging through it.The sand came packaged in plastic and double boxed, so no worry about making messes with leaking sand. It cleans up fairly easily, but can pack pretty tightly causing a brick-like effect when attempting to break it up.Overall, it was pretty expensive, but since it can be used multiple times, it can be a good value. I'd buy this again, and would recommend for others to use.

My children played with this twice before I had them stop. I noticed they were coughing a lot while they played. We usually use a different brand of kinetic sand called Waba Sand that is much more sand like. This is not like that at all. It is so fine and dry that when I played with my children I, too was coughing and found that I had sand in my nose, mouth and eyes after playing with them. It's possible I was sent a defective batch. We did keep it covered but like I said. I noticed it the first time my children played with it. Just be warned. If you notice it is dry you may find that your children will inhale it.

This sand is very fun for the kids! I had a bad "batch" sent the first time and it smelled horrible of like a cat urine smell :( I contacted the company and they were very helpful and sent out a new batch, which didn't have the odor at all. Not sure why that happened, but thankful for the great customer service! This sand is very fun for the kids!!!

In terms of product quality, the sand I received had a foul odor to it. I also did not like the consistency, it was hard and crumbly. I had been using the kinetic sand, and perhaps I was just too used to that type of sand, but even for a different type, it didn't seem as high of quality. I would have given it zero stars, but the customer service was very good. When I entered my return information they responded right away, which I appreciate.

Not quite "pinkish" as seen in picture.. Dirty white but wonderful to mold. Clumps together for easy pick up. You need at least 4-5 lbs... Save a bag or 2 to replenish when it starts to get lessen in the sand table. My daughter and son love it! I do too!!!Priced competitively.Hope this helps.

We bought this and placed half in each of two large flat plastic containers with lids. They are on a small stand and the kids love making shapes and pretend cakes with the moonsand. Cool stuff and hours of fun. When other small friends come for a play session they always gravitate toward our moonsand containers.
