Product Description This All-Purpose Stockpot is the perfect addition to any cooking environment indoors or outdoors! The Steam-Boil-Fry Stockpot has an indentation that raises the basket 2.125 inches above the bottom for steaming or boiling. Use the basket to deep fry chicken, fish or hushpuppies; steaming or boiling seafood, clams and vegetables. Use without basket to boil soups, stews, gumbo, jambalaya, and low country boil. .com Excellent for either indoor or outdoor cooking, this oversized 24-quart stockpot boils, steams, or deep-fries enough food to feed a large crowd. Bayou Classic makes this stockpot out of commercial grade aluminum that heats contents quickly, is lightweight, but is also incredibly strong. Two heavy-duty riveted handles can be held securely even with mitts. The insert basket, also aluminum, is one of the toughest around, and features large 1/2-inch perforated holes and a swing-style wire handle that stays upright on its own or folds over to the side for storage. A ridge around the inside of the pot keeps the insert suspended about 3/8 inch off the bottom of the pot. The lid is vented to allow excess steam to escape. Bayou Classic cookware is renowned for its versatility. Any youth group, annual family gathering, hunting or fishing party, or neighborhood chef knows how handy a pot this size can be, whether boiling corn on the cob, steaming clams, or deep-frying hushpuppies. Measuring 10 inches high and 14 inches in diameter, the pot is probably too large to fit in most dishwashers and will need to be washed by hand. --Ann Bieri

I am completely in love.
I could not possibly be more pleased with this pot.The pot (24 quart) was not too big to use on the stove. The handles on the sides of the pot and the handle on the basket were sturdy and did not bend in the least. It heated quickly. It stayed hot without showing any signs of weakness. The pot is made from aluminum so it was extremely light weight until I put all of the seafood and water in it. This made dumping out the basket and cleaning the pot much easier.I forgot that the handles become as hot as the pot (even the lid handle). Once reminded with a quick scorch of my flesh, I used pot holders for the handles. This did not hinder my experience with this pot in the least.I steamed 2 pounds of shrimp, emptied the basket, kept the water then steamed 3 pounds of snow crab legs, emptied the basket, kept the water then steamed about 30 oysters. They all turned out perfectly. I could not have been more pleased. The water was boiling the entire time. The pot never flinched. The pot is aluminum so I will more than likely purchase a steel one however, it will definitely be from this company. This is a perfect pot for beginners (like me) who want to learn how to cook seafood for themselves. My next step is a stainless steel pot that is larger with a propane burner! Luckily, this company has all of that!I hope you enjoy your new pot as much as I did!

It is a great, big pot.
People, read the description of the pot. It has the capacity and the measurements clearly listed. The bottom is NOT domed, it is flat. Its a large pot plain and simple. And its is a great, high quality pot. Take care of it, don't abuse or mistreat it and it will last forever.

Awesome gumbo pot!!
Due to a growing family I need a larger pot to cook gumbo and soup in. I read the reviews and it said that it had a concave bottom after I had made my purchase I did try to cancel because my stove is a glass-top and I need a flat bottom pot.I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived and found out that the bottom was indeed flat. Even though I'm mainly purchased it for soup and gumbo we will be using it to boil stuff and the basket would even come in handy for a gumbo so you can lift it out and pick your meat. For the price this is unbelievable quality it is really and truly an extremely nice pot for the price the size 24 quart is very perfect for my family's needs at this time. I would totally recommend this to anyone I think it was a good purchase.

Not for steaming
Even though it says it can be used for steaming food, the basket sits right on the bottom of the pot. Would be great for stews or boiling, but NOT FOR STEAMING. Since that's is what I bought it for I have to give low stars. Also, be very careful using on open flame. They show using that way in the pictures but we must have had it too hot, the bottom melted right off.

Great to boil seafood.
I got this pot to make seafood boiling pot and it's a great size. I was able to make 6 pounds of kind crab legs, 1.5 pounds smoked sausage, 1.5 pounds of young potatoes, and 2 pounds of jumbo shrimp. The corn didn't fit but I added it after the seafood was done. It is rather thin but works for what I needed. Overall I think it was a good purchase. I used it the following day to steam the crab legs to heat them up and it worked great as well. I would not fry anything in it or use on an open fire since it's thin.

Flimsy junk...save your money, buy SS.
My mistake for being cheap and buying this rather than a stainless steel piece. Halfway to boiling two gallons of water on a glasstop electric range the pot was dancing so badly I was afraid it would jump off the stove. Did not return because it's a hassle and as I said it was my own fault buying aluminum...went straight in the dumpster.

Great for both inside or outside
Perfect for boiling seafood inside. About as big as you can get, without it being overwhelming. Big enough to use on the outside burner as well, without having to break out the big dogs. I love it!

Just so you're aware... The bottom of pot is convex/domed, not flat.
I would have bought something else if I'd known that the bottom of this pot is "domed," not flat. This isn't a defect, it's a design feature. I will need to modify the pot in order to suit my needs, but if you're using the pot as intended, outdoors, on top of a propane burner or whatnot, this shouldn't be a problem. The description might be incorrectly referring to this as an "indentation," perhaps this is some form of pidgin-English? Can't say for sure.Dent/ding inventory - - I only had one half-dollar sized dent, and it was not very deep. Didn't bother me. Pot is very lightweight, but it's well made. If it weren't for this poor description I would have given it five stars.
