Vello EXT-SFED Deluxe Auto Focus Extension Tube Set for Sony E-Mount Lenses

I bought this tubes for macro photography in order to save some money. Based on the good reviews I decide to give it a try. The macro lens are expensive compared to this tubes, however I decide to return this tubes. The reason is that the pins from this tubes they do scratch the contacts of the lens. The problem is from the tube to the lens side not from the tube to the camera side unless you are connecting the two tubes together, then one tube will scratch the other and so on. When you twist the lens on the tube to lock it you can hear the clicks of the contacts clicking and scratching the contacts.Regards functionality they work, the auto focus works but some times I notice the focusing options on the camera were all off for some reason, then I notice that I need to wiggle around the lens and the tubes in order to make proper contact, once everything is properly in place the auto focus works. Remember with this tubes it can only acquire focus at close distances and it would not focus to infinity. The tubes wont show any sign of vignetting in the pictures.I would suggest probably buying a cheaper alternative and save some money. In order to reduce the scratching on the contacts you may need to dedicate a lens to this tubes and leave this lens in the tube all the time. That way you don't have to put the lens "on" and "off" all the time, that will completely reduce the wear and tear on the contacts of the lens.The reason I give it 2 stars is because they work, but there is a risk involved by constantly remove and inserting the lens in these tubes.

These extension tubes, made to be used with Sony's e-mount lenses, are well-constructed with metal components and have all the electronic contacts to transmit autofocus and exposure information between Sony lenses and the camera body. They work perfectly, and allow you to work closer to your subject with higher magnification. They are useful for making macro images with a regular lens. With the tubes installed between the lens and the body, the focal range shifts, and the lens will no longer focus to infinity. With the 10 mm and 16 mm tubes stacked to make a 26 mm tube, you need to increase exposure 1 stop.With zoom lenses, focus is best achieved by adjusting the zoom ring and the distance to the subject. It is best to use a tripod and focusing rail. Be sure to be within the focal range of the lens/tube setup before trying to focus. Experiment with the focus ring, zoom ring and distance to get the desired magnification. It's more straight forward with a prime lens -- work with your focus ring and distance to achieve focus.I have attached a couple of examples for comparison using my 70-200 mm zoom lens and the 90mm macro lens. The presence of the tubes will not show up in the EXIF data, since the lens info is simply passed through the tube contacts. This is a fine, economical product if you only occasionally need greater macro capability than available with your existing lens set, or if you need to work closer to your subject than your lens' minimum focal distance permits.

Before purchasing, I was a little bit concerned about prior review comments regarding sturdiness. I ordered it anyways. I can confirm, I don't have problems with it. It feels plenty sturdy to me. Very rigid and feels like it'll last for years.I enjoy it. It won't replace my 90 mm Sony macro, but fun to bring macro perspective with my other lenses.

Those extension ware good overall. Works perfectly in my camera and lens. It might be better to test them on macro lens to see if that might work to close up more the subject.What I do not like about this, is the material that made from. It's very cheap and I'm wondering if could I could have any problem to my gear since they are weather sealed. It's even worse than LAE4.

I work and live in a tropical environment and travel often. These extension tubes are not up to the task of any real work. They worked for about 6 months, then began to fall apart and failed utterly a week or so later.Simple atmospheric humidity led to moisture accumulating under the poorly sealed exterior, the metal oxidizing, the coating blistering, and the extension tubes deforming. The locks stuck and the electronics failed.Look for a more robust product if you intend to take photos in the field.

Fair price and a please to use, but depending on what lens you're using, you don't always get good results. Still fun to try.

Inexpensive solution for an amateur photographer like me
