Drizzt explores the surface, another fun read
Once again morals guide his actions. But not everyone chooses to thinks before acting. It enjoyable to watch the loveable drow try to gain acceptance. If you liked the previous 2 books, you will love this one too. A good balance of highs and lows on Drizzits pursuit to find place to call his own and where not everyone wants to fight him.

A good read as always
I have read at least half of the series multiple times in my life. Over the 35 years or so that this means series has been out. Each time that I read the stories that I have read before it amazes me how much more I get out of the story. Each book in the series in its own way gets better and each time that it is reread it becomes clearer. I've said it before and I'll say it again Salvatore is tolkin for his generation.

Into the light
Having read the first 2 Drizzt books I was very interested in discovering how he adjusted to life on the surface. It was great seeing him discover all the new sights, animals, and experiences that were completely foreign to him having lived underground for so many years. I would love to read a book featuring the Ranger that took Drizzt under his care and taught him so much about the world. What a great character. I really enjoyed the constant battle Drizzt had to endure just trying to show people that he was not the evil person everyone thought he was. His character continues to get better through each book. In this book he reminded me of another Elf battling an inner torment (Jandar Sunstar in the book Vampire of the Mists) who was turned into a vampire. Drizzt is a great character and I can't wait for the next book in the series.

As good as I remembered.
Nearly thirty years have passed since I read this book (and this series) for the first time and it holds up as perfectly as anything I’ve ever read. It is more violent than I remembered and I am more saddened and troubled now by its themes than I was an adolescent: the overwhelming prejudice and self-righteousness of people, our destructive pride and obsessive thirst for vengeance and vindication. Our potential to be a McGristle - a whole world of McGristles - terrifies me as I see it now so clearly in the actions of those around me. Our potential to be Carrie-Brie, a Mooshie, a Dove Falconhand - or even a Drizzt, stoically preserving in a world of prejudice and unnecessary Othering, holding fast to principles of Goodness and Justice and a vision of a better world even when principles seem weak defense against a world bent on ruining and destroying us- is so scarcely realized.I hope all of us - me, included - can be better. Thanks, Mr Salvatore, for the inspiration and the rebirth of my idealism.

I love Drizzt!!!
Only the third book in and I'm still loving Drizzt Do'Urden! In this book Drizzt is trying to live in the real world now and no longer in the Underdark. He is trying to learn how to live in the sunlight without going blind so to speak and traverse this strange new world. He still has his wonderful black panther friend, Guenhwyvar. Together they have to find a place they can call home while fighting off giants, orcs, bad humans, etc.Drizzt finds some good people along the way that he becomes friends with and stays with for some time. I really loved Montolio. He was an old blind ranger living in the mountains, he trains Drizzt in the human language and about things in the world. He was such a great friend and a friend to animals, which I loved of course :)I could not stand Roddy who pursued Drizzt to the end of the book! He was a jerk complaining about something that Drizzt did to him, well you attack someone they fight back! Get a clue!I liked how the book ended with Drizzt finding a home with some new friends, including Catti-brie who was fearless in taking up for him, and she was just a little girl. Through the eyes of babes right?I recommend to anyone that likes this kind of fantasy novel.MY REVIEWS:www.melissa413readsalot.blogspot.comhttps://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1303354186

A satisfying read
The Dark Elf trilogy concludes with Drizzet's discovery of the surface world and identity as a ranger. The trials, despair and joys of the famous drow are captured in these pages as he roams the earth trying to find a home where he may be welcomed as a warrior of principles rather than ignorantly shunned as an evil drow elf. This was an entertaining read. Salvatore's characters certainly show a heavy influence to Tolkien and classic literature. However when the Dark Elf Trilogy was published in the early 1990's he, like Jordan, were beginning to bridge the process in writing from classic fantasy influences and moving toward modern fantasy. Never is this more clearly revealed than in Drizzet himself. A lone figure from an malignant society that embraces light rather than the darkness. Not all individuals from every race embody the stereotypes others give them. The writing style maybe hokey at times in context, but many readers will find Drizzet an awesome warrior, with a cool pet panther who battles injustice with deadly precision and skill. However many readers who were bullied or discriminated against unfairly will also find a true hero in Drizzet as another kindred spirit who faces prejudice with quiet patience, forgiveness and fortitude.I enjoyed the Dark Elf Trilogy and am glad that I finished what I began reading with "Homeland" years ago.

Arrived in perfect condition and is a good book to read if you enjoy fantasy books.
I dislike the fact that this arrived before the other book, because I had to wait to read it. But I love how it arrived quickly and in perfect condition.

A satisfying conclusion to Drizzt's origin story
This book is all about Drizzt's journey on the surface, away from the limiting Drow society, a quest to find home.Once again there was no lack of action. The action scenes were nicely interspersed with philosophy and scenes of mundane life. All in all, a solid book that completes Drizzt',s origin arc.
