Small "Handy" Kit for the price
I idon't see where they state it is a "magnesium" rod. It is a "ferro" rod and you receive "two" which is great and really what I expected. It's a great price and a handy little unit. Also the compass works very quickly. Is about the size of a mechanical pencil which makes it very handy being able to place in a pencil slot of a shirt or jacket plus it has a metal loop on the end which is ideal for clipping on a small S-biner. As stated it is a great little firestarter kit. Just wish it came in a brighter color so as not to be misplaced when set down or be easier to find in the bottom of a loose bag. otherwise...recommend buying. Will purchase another.

This is a fantastically portable and super effective little fire starter. It's incredibly easy to carry and comes with a replacement striking surface and a few sample pieces of cloth. It does not come with instructions, so I'll tell you, the striking tool is in the cap end with the loop attached to it, just under its rudimentary compass. Open it up and scratch away! I found it more effective to use the side of the tool than the pointed teeth. once you get the protective surface off, it produces huge sparks every time! Perfect for camping, emergency kits or a "Bug -out bag". Side note: when close and held in a fist, it can be an effective little self defense device if used properly. Probably not what the manufacturer was intending, but it is anyway.Enjoy!

Nice compact design and great that you get a spare rod and extra cotton balls all ready to light. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is the striker is pretty small. It works but I have big hands and will use the spine of my knife more often then the striker.

would be nice to have a larger storage area for tinder and its the only reason I cant give it a higher rating the 1/4 size cotton ball that you can cram into the storage area leaves a lot to be desired. while you can carry tinder in something else not any real advantage to this one over many of the other magnesium fire starters out there.
