Take and Make Art: Hundreds of Royalty-Free Vector Illustrations for Discriminating Designers

If this were the Eisenhowever era, Von Glitscka would be that mythical neighbor that would bring you a coffee cake, a casserole, or a rhubarb pie. He would spend his weekend helping you build your perfect wood deck with absolutely no expectation of reward....He's just that kind of a neighbor!! Once again Glitschka has published a book that will reside on the bookcase next to your desk, with sticky notes peeking out of every other page.Why is this book different from any other book, internet site,or stock company with royalty free artwork?Well...first, it is a Glitschka production. For those of you not in the "know," the Vonster is the guru, godfather, and go to guy of the vector world. If he says an anchor point goes north of the image, all of us minions stand up and listen.Second, you get HUNDREDS of images!! all meticulously drawn in Von's "established aesthetic standard." Once your book is registered, not only do you download the images in the book, but you have access to new images every month. Von, Stop!! this is too much!!!Third, the book, the images within, and featured artist using the vectors are all a wonderful source of inspiration. AT times I use the images, other times I just look through them awed and Glitska's amazing imagination. I don't think this guy has ever had "artist's block."And lastly, the humor. I dare anyone to go through several pages without laughing. The puns, the double entendres, all come together to make this not only a reference for you work, but an enjoyable book to read through by itself.Going back to my good neighbor's example. I am glad that his daughter works alongside him. V.G.s books, tutorials, websites are so well designed, meticulously researched, chocked full of tips and ideas, I don't see where he gets the time and energy to do stuff basic stuff around the house, like sleep or mow the lawn. Note: attached is a small idea that came to me as I went through his book. I selected a robot and added some of the dogs I found throughout.

I've been a huge fan of Von Glitschka's work for a while now. I am not a pro, more like a serious hobbyist. My Dad told me once that if you want to be the best you can, you need to follow the best. That is why I follow Von. I have Von's Vector Basic Training book which is really great at explaining and understanding the creation of vector art. This book is a different. The (royalty-free) art in this book is a constant source of inspiration and enjoyment for the craft of creation. You don't have to been able to draw well (I can't) to make illustrations that are in your brain. One thing Von's process enables you to do is explore and refine. It is in the art of refinement, be it with a pencil, pen, or tablet, that your creation comes to life. Thou this is not the main focus of this book, Von does go into this briefly in the beginning so please read it.When you have a moment of uncertainty, a creative block, or just want to view amazing work to help you create your own masterpiece, this is the book to pick up. It will be by my computer as I am working so when I take a break, I can pick it up to re-energize my brain. This is a book of vector art, not a tutorial type book like Vector Basic Training, or Von's Lynda.com tutorials (highly recommend), yet it is just as valuable because without inspiration, the best artist in the world can't create.

I have been following Von Glitschka's career and advice for several years and I am still amazed by his pragmatic guidance and his generous spirit. I believe I have purchased every product he has produced and I have no hesitation in recommending his work to ANY designer at any level. Aside from his talent and expertise, his contribution to this field has made him a role model for designers, students, managers, and teachers.

I love this book! I find something new and clever each time I thumb through looking for inspiration or a quick image to use in one of my designs. I appreciate the featured artists pages and love seeing how they used different elements from the book to create strong marketing pieces. I will continue to use this for years to come. Two thumbs up!

For me this is an art book, I can just look at all the cool images all day. I'm constantly amazed at the amount Von creates and at the highest quality I've ever seen. If anytime Von creates something I know I would purchase and it would be a 5 star review every time.

An excellent collection of inspirational art work. Tons of creative, outside the box, ideas to draw from ( pun intended ). Also, the available digital download is superb bonus too. Love it!
