Aran Crafts Unisex Irish Cable Knitted Crew Neck Sweater (100% Merino Wool)

Most every Saturday for the last 5 years I'd wear a beat-up old sweater, my "Saturday Sweater". Imagine my dismay when, a couple months ago, my wife told me that one of the three of us (the Sweater, me, or her) had to go. I pointed out that the Sweater was a real step up from my previous piece of guy security clothing (a bright orange fleece pull-over) which she made me get rid of after about 10 years of regular weekend use. Well, she didn't make me get rid of it. She helped me see that I needed to get rid of it. In any case, in response to my effort to save the Saturday Sweater, she just glared at which point I hopefully indicated I washed the Sweater at least once a year whether it needed washing or not. More glaring. So, there I was, sweaterless and depressed.But then I was lucky enough to purchase this Merino Crew Neck Sweater in green. A great garment. On the hefty side of a middle weight sweater with very good material and craftsmanship. A friend who knits quite a bit was in awe. I ordered my usual size (XL) and it fits with no room to spare. Very pleased with this purchase. This is a much, much finer quality piece than my Saturday Sweater, so I'm still in the market...

The color was exactly as pictured! The fit is accurate. The workmanship is very high quality. It is absolutely lovely. The Merino wool is soft and doesn't scratch or itch (but I've never had problems with that anyway). It's light weight enough that you can wear it indoors, but it's warm enough to wear outdoors on a cold day. The wool and the weave breathe, but are also warm. Love it! My husband also really likes the one I bought for him (different color, but also as pictured). Very, very nice. (And I used to sell both the hand woven ones and loomed ones like this in an imports store when I was in college, so I know what I'm talking about. I believe it might even be the same manufacturer).

Nearly all Irish sheep are for meat not wool and the climate is not right for soft, non-itchy wool. This sweater is wonderfully wearable Merino wool and compare very favorably with a hand knitted sweater I bought from the lady that knitted it on Inishmore. Don't let the good price fool you, this is a SUPERIOR sweater and MUCH better than the higher priced Aran Sweater Market sweater that I also bought. It is softer, retains its form better, is tighter and harder to snag than the one from ASM. The green color is very deep and rich. It fits me exactly like the one on the model, so if that's not what you want, you might try a size smaller. I LOVE this sweater!

This is a well made jumper from Ireland. I've found it comfortable to wear both outside and inside. It breathes well, which keeps you from sweating. It's soft to the touch, softer than most wools. It is hand wash only, or you can dry clean it. You shouldn't have to clean it too often. Hang it up often to "air freshen", which will keep it fresh smelling and not need washing too often. You can feel a breeze come through on windy days, but it's not bad. I recommend this to anyone who likes jumpers. If pulling this over your head to wear is a problem, get a cardigan instead. I have both and think they are worth the money.

The green is not olive as pictured. It is a bright green. I was a little disappointed in that I had hoped for the more subtle color. There is not a lot you can wear the bright color with. The olive would have been more wearable with more items. It is well made and good quality but be prepared to get a different color than what is pictured.

Looked great upon delivery.Put it in a cold wash as directed by wash tag and promptly cried after removing from the washer.A once XL sweater (meant for my husband of 230 lbs) was now a S and could only fit me (110 lbs).Obviously this sweater ended with a wash only and an air dry.It fits me great and is very warm.

For the price it is surprising the quality of this sweater. We almost spent over twice the amount for a sweater on sale in a shop that wouldn't have been appreciated any more than this one. Sizing was as expected. Great weight, nice appearance. Dress it up by wearing a nice collared shirt underneath and nice slacks or wear with jeans. It seems you can't really go wrong with this sweater from Aran Craft's. It was shipped from Ireland rather quickly which was surprising.

In today's age of copies and knock-offs, where the original and fakes are often hard to tell apart, I am often cautious about buying things that claim to be real, but in fact are cheap look-alikes. However, this sweater is truly the real deal, and you can buy it with confidence.I am very pleased with mine. I got the dark green color, and it fits perfectly. It's not as heavy as some sweaters of this type are, which is great for me because I usually layer the sweater with another shirt and a t-shirt, and if you also wear a coat or jacket, you can overheat really fast -- not fun or healthy! But the weight of this sweater makes it ideal for layering, or just wearing with a t-shirt.I'd call this a fall - winter - spring weight. The sweater needs to be cared for carefully, otherwise it may stretch out of shape; but this is true of all sweaters of this type. I clean mine as seldom as possible, and really, if you are careful, the sweater should last many years.I can't think of anything bad or any "cons" about this product. Shipping was pretty fast, the price was great, and the quality, craftsmanship, and details of the sweater speak of a much more expensive item. I'm enjoying mine in this ultra-cold winter, and if you decide to get one, you will be making a good choice!I'm not sure how to make the "Certified Buyer" tag appear with this review; maybe Amazon does that automatically. I've had one of these - "L" for a 42in chest - for more than 2 years. Soft, not too heavy (full-on oiled Aran sweater is too warm most of the year). Very comfortable. Beware - the instructions say "hand wash, dry flat". They mean it! Sadly, I had a brain explosion last week, hand washed it then put it in the machine for a 30 minute cold rinse and spin cycle. It shrank. Irretrievably.I now have a new one....

Very happy with this purchase. The label clearly states it is made from Merino wool and the jersey is so comfortable it has immediately become one of my favourites. I was unsure whether to get a medium or large. I have a 41inch+ chest - I bought a large because I prefer a slightly baggy sweater. Large was a good choice for me.

Received with bliss.The Irish merino wool of the jumper, is tactile, of grade quality, durable and soft to touch to the skin it is very relaxable to wear, soft to touch and provides excellent warmth. I highly recommend the product and quality of the wool.It is a gift to receive, and wear. Welcomingly retains warmth with balance. I love it.It provides superb comfort.Definitely is a favourite of mine!

Excellent product. Nice and heavier than expected and warm too. I am extremely happy with it and the colour is just right as I hoped it would be. Delivery was well on time. I recently ordered a similar sweater from another firm in Ireland and never even received it and eventually got a refund after six weeks. I will always buy only through Amazon from now on.

Very nice. The only thing I noticed was that it seems to have a fairly loose weave, so that it may not be as warm as some might hope. Conversely, the wearer should stay nice & cool in hot weather! It fit perfectly, which was my main concern. Overall, I'm very happy with it.
