A perfect Handful!
I bought a Smith and Wesson 438 as a backup/summer EDC. For me carrying my G19 in the summer is just to big. But the grip that came with the gun just didnt quite fit right. After I did some research I went with these Hogue wood grips. So easy to install and sure looked good once on. I then took the 438bto the range to test the grips. From the moment I installed them I was sure these were the ticket. I was right much better grip closed up my pattern and performance. Hogue makes quality products and I would definitely look to them for my next pair of grips.

Beautiful wood grips
These Hogue J-Frame grips fit perfectly on my model 63 without any modification. Nice dark wood with darker grain as in picture. You need to knock out the grip pin which is under the stock grips and replace it with the included shorter pin (easy to do). I don't think these should be considered "oversize" as they do not cover the back strap, although they are slightly thicker than the stock grip.

Non-existent quality control
I'm 0 for 2 on these grips. It was impossible to seat the stirrup all the way down. Yes the pin was replaced. There was a 3/16 inch gap that could not be closed. A close inspection revealed that the inside base of the grip was crooked and there was no way to get the stirrup down to the bottom. Hogue expects you to risk your gun banging out the grip locator pin, risk scratching the base of the grip frame trying to get the stirrup on, and then they turn out sloppy garbage that would require a wood-working professional to fix. NEVER AGAIN HOGUE!

Feels great, does not feel secure on gun.
First and foremost, these grips feel unbelievable in your hand. The problem I have with them, is that after installation they seemed solid, and I have tightened them as much as I can. But when I took my 642 to the range to test them out, I can feel the gun slipping around inside these grips. It's honestly terrifying. I don't know if this is normal or not. I'm considering returning them simply because I fear them breaking off while shooting. (the 642 has quite a bit of recoil). Hogue, I'm not sure if you read these reviews, but if you do, please advise.

Handsome and Handworthy
Bought these for a S&W 640-1 Pro Series. For carry purposes, I much prefer smooth wood grips with finger grooves over sharply checkered or rubber composites because they will not drag on clothing as you move, yet provide an adequate grip. Shorter 'boot grips' such as those by Eagle are fine for 38 +P loads and are less likely to produce a 'bump' in your t-shirt, but the slightly longer profile on these grips go a long way to help manage .357 level recoil in a J-frame. My few (minor) complaints are the added hassle of changing out the factory grip frame pin (mainly because it is an open invitation to lose it), and there's not quite enough clearance to drop full moon clips in/out without some bit of wrangling. I also wish the new pin fit tighter so it didn't fall out when grips are removed for maintenance or cleaning. Bottom line, I will likely buy second pair for another 640-1 Pro I have coming in.

Conceal carrier
Got these for my boyfriend. He loves he look, very sharp. Really good quality. Holds up really well, fits perfectly. The only issue he has stated is that they tend to show a little more when he conceal carries. He has the original grips and then these. He only uses the original grips because they show an outline.

Love this grip
Bought it for my S&W 642 that came with a rubber grip that didn't give much to hold on to and made it hard to go in and out of the pocket. This grip changed all that. The little more length and deep finger groves give much better control and still does not hamper pocket conceal. On top of all that, looks and feel are just great and the fit is perfect. Get one!
