Small tip makes it easier to get a tight line to a straight edge
Good tip, although the retract mechanism is not great, ... or is it perfect? If you push "too hard" on the tip, the scribe point will push back into the pen. I thought it was ruined when I first did that, but when you then press the retract button, and push the tip out again, it seems to come back to the correct position. Not bad. It gives you plenty of strength for scribing lines, but you can't easily use it for anything that uses much more pressure than that. For instance you are very limited in trying to make the center of two crossed lines a little deeper so it's easier for your center punch to seat properly, even in aluminum.

Scribes Well
Works great, stores just like a pen. No issues scribing lines in various metals or mill scale, and the pen clicker is a nice touch to keep from poking holes in pockets or accidentally stabbing yourself through your clothing (as one would suspect/hope, it is sharp).

No magnet in the end, but clearly a well made tool.
This is a good quality tool (and priced accordingly). More convenient than loosening a collet and turning the point around, as on most pocket scribes. However, though some will appreciate the tool not having a magnet at the top, I miss that. The downside to the magnet is it attaches to stuff and can get pulled out of the pocket (often!), and can erase credit cards if you put one in your shirt pocket - - won't happen with this tool.I haven't figured out the reason the carbide tip has a small circlip inside the barrel that would allow the tip to be extended more. However, this would prevent the tip from retracting fully. Is this so the tip can be adjusted if it is shortened due to sharpening? That doesn't seem likely . . .

I immediately liked it. It's more expensive than another one I ...
I didn't realize that the tip retracted. When I received this scribe and saw that feature, I immediately liked it. It's more expensive than another one I bought and lost, but it feels like a really nice scribe. My other scribe came with a piece of vinyl tubing over the tip to keep it from scratching other items or getting damaged, I kept the tubing on when not using the scribe. The retractable tip is a much nicer solution. The spring to retract is pretty strong which should keep accidental tip extension to a minimum. The tip of this scribe seems to be shaper than the other one I had, but I can't definitively say so since it's lost. Overall, very nice scribe.

Using medium force on the point pushes the tip into the housing
I like the retractable feature - it prevents the tip from poking through your shirt pocket. Having said this, it doesn’t take much force to cause the tip to get stuck into the housing. I’ve had to take the thing apart several times to “reset” it as the tip gets forced into the retractable mechanism and pushing the button won’t retract the tip.

Weak
The tip on this thing is very unstable and very inaccurate, the tip is loose and wobbles.

US made scribe
I've been using this for about 6 months and have yet to need to replace the tip. It's roughly the diameter of a pen and just a little bit longer. Fits nicely into my shop coat pocket. It uses a small button on the side to retract that can stick out a bit in use, but it is near the pocket clip so it is difficult to press accidentally. Good product, prompt delivery and I would recommend it.

Perfect function but a cheap feel on the body.
Function is perfect, only reason I gave four stars was cause of the feel. It feels cheap but it's performance is great. Im a glazier and always cutting material (anodized aluminum) so it does a great job away baking my cut marks.

Like that it's made in the USA
I'm an industrial mechanic and have used this tool a lot already. Stays sharp and I like that the tip is retractable, don't have to worry about accidentally stabbing your hand.

Excellent scribe, the knurling is very fine and feels good in the hand. Very thin carbide point
