Wonderful product
I ordered this for my dog that had a scratched cornea. Unfortunately he has been dealing with this since February but didn't get the correct diagnosis or treatment until April. This has been a blessing for him, after the first grid procedure he was sent home with a giant cone. There is no way he could've worn that for the 6 weeks he has been in this visor. The vet did not know something like this existed and said for his situation it is perfect. This visor allows him to eat, drink and play normally all while being protected while healing. There have been a couple challenges, all caused by my dog, he has tried to squeeze into tight spaces and has torn both sides where the blue chin strap goes. Scratching behind his ears is impossible and he will turn the visor upside-down but comes to me to fix it. The set up of this is difficult but once you get it sized correctly, and figure out how and where the blue plastic tabs go it works great. I highly recommend this product for canine eye issues.

Nice option if you can find the right size
The sizing chart was not helpful for my dog (I have a Sheltie) and, even though I followed it, this item was way too big. There were no other smaller, regular snout sizes available on Amazon so I had to google search for a US distributor. Protective Pet Solutions had me send multiple measurements and pictures and then they recommended a size. They also sent a piece of foam to use (which I did) to help adjust for slight size variations and slipping. I was not comfortable with the tightness of the neck strap that would be needed to keep my dog from getting it off but I found the solution was to use additional Velcro pieces to attach it to her walking harness leash loop and adjusted the size of the loop to ensure she could lay down. I made a loop on each side of the back of the optivizor and used a 3 piece to loop through the leash loop. I still do not trust her if she is away from me or at night (where she might put in extra effort to remove it) so we still alternate her OptiVizor with her cone.

SUNVIZOR TO PROTECT HIS EYES
He actually found new ways to get this thing off from his head. After 5 times of putting this on him, he was pissed, and I was even more missed because if you know Westie’s they are stubborn as hell, so the another blind aid on the shelf.

Cloudy, scratched plastic
For the money I paid I would have expected this to last longer. Our dog who had eye surgery wore it 1 week and it worked well, no complaints. He went in for eye surgery again and we had hoped to use this visor again however the plastic was cloudy and also scratched. Since the dog must look through this plastic to see, we can not use it now. Not sure why it became cloudy, we can live with the scratches, however the cloudiness is really bad. The visor was taken care of, only the normal wear and tear from a dog. It would be nice if we could just replace the clear plastic but it does not detach. Very dissapointed and our dog is now wearing a cone with the second surgery.

Too cumbersome
Too heavy. Put anything on a dogs’s head and they want to take it off. To protect the dogs face it does not have to be a heavy piece of plastic, I’d rather have multiple lightweight sheets that can be replaced as needed. Also there has to be a better way to keep the clear sheet elevated above the dog face than the contraption now available.

Excellent alternative to the cone for eye protection.
Our dog had eye surgery and we were sent home with THE CONE which he was to wear for 10 days. Anyone who has dealt with a dog in a cone knows how impossible this is. Hoping to find some alternative I searched online and found this mask. The assembly diagram it came with was not helpful, but I found a video online and got the thing put together in just a couple of minutes. We replaced the cone with this mask and it is perfect! Well, maybe not perfect...the velcro chin strap was too short so we extended it with a piece of ribbon and NOW it is perfect, He can see all around himself, he can eat and drink normally and he doesn't run into anything. It stays on and he appears to be very comfortable in it.We do have to still watch him because he could probably dislodge or remove it if given enough time and effort, but he cannot scratch or rub his face. Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend this product and can't believe that the vet didn't offer or suggest it. I don't think it could replace the cone for surgeries elsewhere on the body but it is perfect for keeping him away from the eye area. Sizing: Our dog is a 60 pound lab pit mix but his head is small so we got the small/medium size and it is a very good fit.

Times better than a cone
I bought this product for my little shar-pei girl. After her eye surgery they gave us a regular cone and told us not to remove it . My dog could not eat, drink or sleep properly for a week. And then I found this vizor. Its not ideal. And definitely it should not cost that much, considering its quality. However, the visor is definitely times better than a cone. The dog sleeps quite comfortably in it now. I bought size med/small, but it was still a little too big. I had to cut the transparent plastic part a little bit for it to fit. 2 velcro straps they used to secure the visor are uncomfortable for the dog. This is a temporary device designed to make an animal comfortable for a limited period of time. Overall, I give it 4 stars.

So much more functional than a cone
We were hesitant to purchase after people mentioned not being able to find a size to fit but we were desperate! We measured our JRT and ordered the small/medium. It's been a lifesaver. He scratched his eye and got a corneal ulcer about six weeks ago. Even with cones he was still managing to rub his eye on the sides of furniture, etc., and the massive cone we finally put him in to stop that behavior made him unable to go up stairs without tripping and choking, unable to eat or drink without upending the bowls, and unable to sleep comfortably in his crate. This thing solved all of that and kept him from his eye (which has since healed). Like other reviewers, we did end up also velcro-ing the visor to his collar which worked great.
