The Later Years: 1987-2019

Pink floyd later years - concisely collected.
This 1 disc highlights of Pink floyd - the later years 1987-2019:is a highlights package of a much more elaborate 16 disc limited edition (and quite expensive) box set of said collected period. This compilation covers the post Roger Waters 'Floyd input - after he had quit band duties in late 1985,to embark on his solo career.the ensuing legal tussle that followed his departure is well documented in scores of music publications etc,so i won't write a long essay on the subject in this review. With remaining full time members: David Gilmour and Nick Mason, free to carry on with the Pink Floyd name;they started work on their next studio album:A momentary lapse of reason.several of the tracks appear on this CD - in newly re-mixed form.i.e.Sorrow,one slip and On the turning away.Other tracks feature from the live album; The delicate sound of thunder;Us and them,Learning to fly and closing track - a gutsy performance of Run like hell.Other live performances are:Live from Knebworth 1990 and feature; Shine on you crazy diamond,Comfortably numb and Wish you where here - all fine inclusions, and never previously released on a Pink floyd record - only the hard to find Knebworth 1990 box set package.Other interesting inclusions are,The previously unreleased: Marooned jam and High hopes (early version),and Lost for words (Pulse tour rehearsal 1994),when Richard Wright had re-joined the band as a fully fledged member, after previous uncertainty about his exact role in PF.Following on from the 2016 release of the similar project - Pink floyd:The early years 1967-1972;The later years comes in similar digi-pak style and includes a glossy booklet with colour and black and white photos of the period - including a re-production of the pulse album photo collage, tour posters and full song writing and musician credits.A misleading title in a way - The later years 1987-2019.The actual featured recordings only include up to the end of the Division bell/pulse live tour performances in 1994.2019 only refers to the year the re-mixing took place - not new recordings - quite a vacuum inbetween I'd say!On the whole I would recommend this one disc compilation collection, both to established and potential new Pink floyd fans and should keep your appetite at bay for the more elaborate and pretty expensive, expanded box set available out there.N.B.proof they could still cut it without their "creative genious" - you KNOW who!P.S.excellent re-mixes by engineers involved.

Great value
I couldn’t resist this CD package. Apart from it being really great value and despite of course that ‘we’ve heard it all before’, it is a great collection of live performances from Knebworth in 1990 and remixes of all the classic post Roger Waters Pink Floyd line-up. The remixing on this collection is absolutely crystal clear and as I’m more of a headphone listener to my favourite bands and artists I find this CD a delightful and wonderful experience. If you’re a Floyd fan of the band in all of their incarnations then I’m sure you’ll love this.

2019 remix adds a new dimension
This is a great new sampler / collection of songs from the forthcoming Later Years box set. In fact, you could argue that this has most of the highlights, because there isn't a great deal of new / unreleased material included in the larger, expensive box set.The early version of High Hopes has a stunning electric guitar solo from Gilmour and the 3 songs from "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" sound fantastic due to the 2019 remix - it's great to hear Nick Mason playing drums on these tracks, plus additional hammond organ from Rick Wright. The bass drum on One Slip... superb! Also, it's nice to hear the tour rehearsal version of Lost for Words from The Division Bell, and the Delicate Sound of Thunder tracks have certainly been given an added dimension with the new 2019 mix. Run Like Hell sounds particularly bass heavy and more dynamic than the original release, so this bodes well for that album as well.Overall this compilation sets the scene nicely for the forthcoming box set and for those not wanting to spend £300+ then this will do nicely, plus hopefully we get Momentary Lapse 2019 remix released separately in the new year... I'm sure the whole album will sound stunning!Enjoy....

Awesome!
Anything Pink Floyd does is amazing. This new release, The Later Years 1987 - 2019, is no exception. This compilation consists of songs from Wish You Were Here to The Division Bell but most likely like we've never heard them before unless you've been to a Pink Floyd concert. There are live version and remixes of their later songs from the albums I mentioned. This is a must for any Pink Floyd fan. Well worth the money and to boot, great for going down the highway with this blasting from your car windows. I highly recommend it.
