Nice enough story, poor proof-reading
Okay story. Short.. Unlikely patterns of twins. Definitely not on a par with the Pern books. But typos really bug me.

If Wishes Were Horses - not her best, but it is still an Anne M book!
Quick read; liked it even though there was less there than some of her other books.Still, I read anything by Anne!

Reminder of who holds the family together during war.
Coming of age during hardship. Told through the eyes of a young girl. Ann McCaffrey. Has a always been one of my favorite story tellers. She has never disappointed. She tells of growing up and the love of a mother, wife and noble lady.

Wonderful story by a master storyteller
Anne McCaffrey is one of my favorite authors. Although she is best known for science fiction/fantasy, she also wrote other types of books, sometimes for her grandchildren. This book is one of her less-known works, but it's an excellent book nonetheless. I'm happy to see that a new edition has been released so that more readers can find it.

well written and a good story!
This was a diversion from most of the author's writing. This was a really well-written story with a good plot.

Excellent Shorter Story of a Village, a family, and Distant War
Anne McCaffrey tells the best stories, hands down. She has a way of bringing a character to life, a bit at a time and you can't help falling in love with them and the situations they go through. In this story we're introduced to a small village by a river that depends on the local lord's care. In his family are many children but it's the two oldest twins that stand out: Tizra and her twin brother Tracell. A war is brewing and it's a close look at the family and village as they deal with each challenge. I wouldn't mind more on this family, village, and Tizra. . . We get a glimpse, and it's enough, but I wouldn't mind reading more. I just double checked. . . I guess I missed this one coming out ages ago before Ms. McCaffrey passed. Her work still stands strong.. - Dan's Wife

Not quite what I expected
While this book, like all Anne McCaffrey books, was well written and pulled me in from the beginning, it was not what I had expected. This is completely my fault though. I expected a full novel. This was more of novella. I should have known this from the price, and then the information on the page for the book, which states it was 114 pages. But I didn't. So as I was reading, I thought - this is moving along rather fast. Then, it was over. Now, it was well written, as I said, and the story was complete. If you are looking for a quick read, something to just pass an hour (or two - depending on how fast you read) then I HIGHLY recommend this book.

Short and fun.
It was a nice story of growing up and hard times and being proactive. Loved the get it done attitude.

Gripping characters
As always In Anne's stories, strong female roles with humour and dedication. An enjoyable read as a stand alone story or could have been used as the start of a continued story.

Brilliant a story everyone would love to read and enjoy. I just wish she was still here and writing for us.
