Touch and Feel: Wild Animals

Babyโs favorite
This book was a favorite of both my sons when they were very young. When I misplaced it I decided to buy it again for my infant daughter. She loves the big areas of varying texture on each page. While there are just five animals in this book, it seems just right for very young ones. My baby was three months old when we began reading this. It has been fun seeing which animals my different children have gravitated toward. I love childrenโs books and have quite a few. This book remains in nearly a daily roatation.

the best touch and feel so far
This is one of my 10 month old's favorite books, she nearly always chooses it first, even over sound books. She loves to look at the pictures of the lion, the lizard, and the frog, to grab a fistful of the lion's mane, scratch the lizard's bumpy skin, and feel the frog's sticky fingers. The dolphin and koala get less attention, but the other 3 fascinate her enough that she wants to look at them every day. I haven't come across another touch and feel that is as good.

Good Book!
Great Touch and Feel...good variety of textures. Nice selection of animals to introduce to your LO. DK books are the perfect size for your child to hold and be able to turn pages. Sound purchase.

My 9 mo old loves this book!
This is the second book of this series that I've bought for my daughter (we also have the farm one which we love too). Here's why we love this book:-each page has a different texture (hairy, bumpy, sticky, etc). There's a fun variety some other touch and feel books will only feature one texture just in different colors. Also the textures are a good size-it has fun bold contrasting colors-theres no clutter in the pictures... Just highlights the featured animal-each page talks about the animal... It's not just a label or animal sound but actually gives an animal fact.My 9 month old loves this book. We read the front to back and then go through it again and talk about the colors of each animal and the sounds it makes. It's an awesome touch and feel book!

Nice addition to touch & feel book collection
This isn't the best touch & feel book we own, but it is a nice addition. There is a lion with a thick, furry mane; a lizard with "bumpy" skin, although it doesn't feel all that bumpy to me; a dolphin with skin that feels like craft foam; a frog with sticky toes (my favorite); and a furry koala which I think is too similar in texture to the lion. However, my daughter (currently 7 months) seems to like the lizard and koala pages the best. I took off one star because I would have liked a better variety of textures, and the lizard's skin is barely raised at all. We like the Usborne Touchy-Feely books and the Tiger Tales "My First Touch and Feel" books as well. I would probably purchase other DK Touch & Feel books in the future.

Great!
I saw this book at the preschool I work at and loved it so I ordered one for my niece. Itโs a really good book and can help expand childโs vocabulary if youโre going over the pages with them, asking what does koala feel like to touch, etc. I love the wild animals one the most as it has different textures in it and super cute animals.

5 variety of animals
At 10 months my daughter became fascinated with our house cat but he wouldn't sit around long enough for her to poke at him so we decided to get her the next best thing -- touch & feel books! Having already purchased Kitten and Pets from the Touch and Feel line of books, we ran out of house cats to read about so we decided to buy this to expand the cat topic. Wild Animals features a hairy lion, a rough lizard, a smooth dolphin, a sticky tree frog and a furry koala. My daughter doesn't like the tree frog at all =] She'll turn away from it, shake her head and try to turn the page to the next animal. I like that there's a variety of animals represented: a mammal, a reptile, an animal from the sea, etc.

My toddler approves
Although this is definitely a used book (of which I was aware when I bought it), it is one of my toddler's favorites when we need a quiet activity. It was an Easter gift and now resides in our diaper bag and is great when I need him to sit still, quietly for a few minutes. The touch and feel is intriguing enough that he will look through the book a few times in one sitting, although the "sticky" of the frog toes is now mostly just dirty from being touched (it arrived that way) and not really sticky anymore. My little guy doesn't seem to care, so I guess it's not that big of a deal.

Better books out there
Lovely idea for textures for baby to touch. I just wish there were more pages/animals! My baby would love to keep going in the book but it ends too quickly for her. However the textures in the book although a lovely idea, be careful as the lions mane hair comes out easily and my baby has often had handfuls of hair! And also the dolphin scratches really easily- two textures not really good for a baby. I went for this as I really wanted one with real animal pictures in and the textures as my baby loves touch and feel books!

Weird choices of animals.
Really - a smooth slippery dolphin?! It feels pretty much the same as the page. Similarly the bumpy lizard skin is anything but. Also, 'shiny' is not a texture, the fish should be SCALY, which it isn't, it's just sparkly foil wrapping paper type stuff. On the plus side, the sticky frog pads are a great idea and my son loves them.
