Such fun research!
Disclosure: I was one of undergraduate research assistants getting credit for participating in Dr. Gosling's bedroom study (back in the day), and later 'volunteered' my coworkers for the office study. I knew he had grand plans for the study, but I had no idea quite the depth and breadth of the research he was doing, so this was a fantastic book to get to know the scope of the project(s). Dr. Gosling does a great job reviewing related research, showing how his results fit into other findings and assumptions out there, tying it all together, and making it applicable to our everyday life. It was an interesting read, and a fun one.

Stuff and Nonsense
Sam has wasted a fair chunk of his life.Or, perhaps, he has become hooked on snooping around others' living spaces and is now very adept at discerning the basic attributes of his subjects.I will never really understand the driving force which makes a man devote his life to understand others by their personal artifacts, this book is an eye opener. Not having a background in psychology, I do not share the author's reference frameworks and analytical tools, so I am very happy that he has avoided the heavy stuff as he presents the distilled essence of decades of snooping around people's personal spaces, at home, at work and elsewhere. This is a pleasant and informative book, an introduction to a completely different way to view our environment and that of our friends and acquaintances. I am glad that I own this book - I will surely come back again and re-read it. It will stay on my shelves, which no library book can do. This is a book to own and to keep.

Slim Pickings
This is one of those cases where once you hear something, it seems so obvious that you feel like you already knew it. And probably you did. Author Sam Gosling makes a point of telling us that some of our intuitions are incorrect, and that what he's saying isn't all self-evident. But the take-away here just seems pretty thin. He describes various ways of categorizing personality types, and uses a very basic 5-trait personality description for the basis of most of what he says. I expected more of a marketing perspective, but all the action here takes place in dorm rooms, where we find out whether tidy is the same as tidied, and that your taste in music tells pretty much everything a possible mate would want to know about you.

Great for detectives and mystery writers and their fans
The advertisement for this book said it was about how to deduce a person's psychological traits from looking at their room. It is more broadly about psychological traits and how to deduce them from a person's office, home, playlist, facebook, dress, etc. There are some nice tables showing what people tend to expect to be a reflection of psychology and what really is. This is a great book for a detective, mystery writer, or people who just like being observant. The author sometimes gets started on a topic, then digresses before coming back to the original topic. From this we can deduce that the author is not a fanatical organizer.Narcissists need not read the book as they will be sure they already know the information, and in fact will be certain that they read the book two years before it was published.

Really Cool
Gives you a neat insight on yourself and others just by the things they place in their rooms and how they’re there. Includes a few small exercises to complete.

Very informative
I felt like I really learned a lot about myself and others! Highly recommend this book. Gosling really writes as though he talking directly to you which makes super easy to understand, too.

Spannend

Great book for the inquisitive mind
I love this book - Sam Gosling is a great storyteller and makes his research very easy to understand and digest. I had the privilege to see Sam Gosling present at a marketing conference in London and he is just as fun and witty in real life as he is in this clever book. The book gives great insight not only about others but also about ourselves and the image that we portray to others. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is curious about how humans work and how they interact, no background in psychology or other needed.
