It has become an essential part of my illustration software.
Great fun. Easy to use once I had done a few tutorials. It uses layers to refine roughs into finished inked and/or colored illustrations and comic pages. You can make onion skin layers to work out animation sequences or to show the movement of a figure frame to frame on a comic page. It is really designed to use with a tablet device such as my Wacom Intuos. It is also an inexpensive program so those with limited budgets can get into it easily. For me the hardest part has been to get back into drawing which I have not done for 30 years, but the ease of erasing my mistakes and doing over digitally has been quite helpful. I can erase on the drawing, or I can add a new layer and modify my drawing on that layer then delete the layer that I didn't like.

Not in color, no real "demos"
I, too, was under the impression that the book would be in color. Sadly, while explaining the processes of digital painting all the artwork in the book is in black and white. Also, the book talks about "demos". I thought that the "demo's" would link to pages on the internet showing how several illustrations were done. What the "demo" is, is a paragraph of writing for the black and white thumb nail pic. There are 3 to 5 pix per demonstration. The reason I did not find these "demos" helpful is bec the author presupposes that you already understand what he's writing about. For example, when he mentions adding warm glazes as the third step, it was very unclear to me what he meant and difficult to see much change from the former black and white, to the next one that was grayed out. Honestly, I wouldn't buy this book if I had seen the "demos" inside.

Totally misrepresented
I have never been so disappointed in a book, especially one that costs $30. For one thing, for a painting instruction book, it is printed in BLACK AND WHITE, so that the subtle changes in the sample illustrations are nearly invisible. Screen shots of menus show white lettering on a gray background -- unreadable. For another, although the text claims to be step-by-step, I found it impossible to follow. Layers, for example -- I would benefit from seeing a chart of the layers and what they are used for. Instead, the text spoke of adding a layer "behind" the current one. Facing which way? The term "merging layers" was used often, but there was no help about how to do that. I will grant that I know more about the software controls after reading this book, but I found little else of value here. (p.s. this is the first time I've EVER been so incensed that I complained about the anticipated contents of a book -- vah)

Notional, not descriptive
For a description of Autodesk Sketchbook painting, this book is very terse. The information is more notional, giving an idea of what needs to be done for digital painting, but there are few details concerning how to use layers for effective painting, e.g., whether one should use one blending mode or another. It's also odd to see a book on digital painting to be rendered almost entirely in black and white. One would hope for a more detailed description of how to use Sketchbook for digital painting.

Intensive manual for Autoesk Sketchbook Pro digital art
This book has what I sought in the Sketch Pro digital art category - in every chapter, including the necessities of layering as well as the guidelines! I would definitely recommend it to anyone who is intrigued by this program although I've got the Auto Sketchbook Pro 2011 program to work thoroughly on first!! Thank you much - and good luck on securing sequel to this vital book!!

Now I know how it works
This book gives you a good start. What is the point of having a great application if only use half of the tools. The book cleared up a few things. I also found the tips and tricks useful. Great help.

Read the reviews before buying!
Very disappointed to see what little I received for the cost I paid (£18.99)Total of 97 pages of black and white illustrations and very little written guidelines for a book about designing and creating professional artwork! Can probably learn more from YouTube videos for free!

En blanco y negro
Solo con decir que es un libro para aprender a pintar que viene en bbsnco y negro, sería suficiente para dudar de su compra.
