Excellent door. Excellent company. Must Buy!! So much better than traditional metal Bilco doors

Beware short life !!! 🙁
Great when new, we loved it! The doors were easy to open, closed gently( great shocks!), and was nicely lighted with the side windows. Thought it was the best door ever. However, unless you have the $$$ to replace it periodically we would suggest you rethink this door. We installed this door 9 years ago to replace the Excruciatingly heavy metal doors that were old and rusting.. tornado threats were not a problem in our area back then so the weight was not necessary. It has only a 5 year prorated warrantee. We discovered it leaking awhile back and tried caulking which worked for a while. Now our stairs are rotting from the moisture. Water gets into the cavity of the doors, the drain plug disintegrated long ago but still water collects. They are very warped and bow out which is probably why they leak into the stair well. Now with global warming we are getting tornados🌪🥺so plan to go back to the heavy traditional steel doors.

Center sagging and leaks.
Our contractor recommended these doors and a little over a year after being installed they have a distinct bow in the center where the doors meet at the high side and water leaks into the stairway and into our basement. There is a metal strip that goes in at the top between plastic pieces that is intended to strengthen that area but the screws that go through the plastic then through the metal strip then anchor into another plastic piece is not strong enough to prevent the sagging. The color which was a decent shade of tan is now more of a dirty white looking color. We now are replacing this 7 year old hatchway with metal. At least we can paint the metal. Bilco metal is good, Bilco plastic is bad.
