classic TV soundtrack's at their best
This series of a pair of intrepid U.N.C.L.E agents was, at the height of the Bond craze, the most popular show on television...In the fullness of time the show hasn't aged as well, the MGM backlot served as the show's locations and limited it- sadly- to a fairly routine series as far as plots and execution goes. An excellent cast helped. But the music is another thing altogether.Jerry Goldsmith wrote a full score for the series, and then other composers like Morton Stevens and Hugo Friedhoefer amongst others would have their shot at an episode using Goldsmith's themes as a template. This particular two CD collection has more than a dozen (early) episodes on it with full musical codas from that episode in a 5 or 6 minute bit. The sound quality is spectacular, and these are Original Soundtrack recordings, not hastily re-arranged copies. There is a companion CD to this which has the later seasons (three and four) on it; it, too is a nice plus for any collection. This all works quite well in the 'bachelor pad mix' which any single guy will tell you is an important ingredient to any interesting evening at home- but even if that isn't your scene you will thoroughly enjoy this outstanding collection of 60's music, lovingly packaged and anotated...

Excellent collection!
The Man from U.N.C.L.E. [Original Television Soundtrack] is a long awaited treasure. As a fan of the show, I had enjoyed the original music from the series, but there were no recordings available of it for decades. (I had only Hugo Montenegro's variations of the music, and a homemade reel-to reel recording of the theme.) This cd is an excellent compilation of selections from all four U.N.C.L.E. seasons, which showcases the changing 'mood' of the series. The liner notes provide a wealth of information about the music, the composers, and the episodes these tracks were selected from. This recording, and the companion Volume 2, are highly recommended for all U.N.C.L.E. fans - and any fan of '60s soundtrack recordings.

Great Music, Great Memories
I always wanted the music of this T.V. show, my all time favorite, and not, until now, I could enjoy again the thrills of this TV series. In chronological order you can listen to different themes of the four seasons this show lasted. Jerry Goldsmith, Lalo Schifrin, Gerald Fried and many other great composers, who gave their best to add excitement to this spies adventures show can be enjoyed here. A must for all the fans of the Man From UNCLE.

For those who dreamed during the Cold War
This is a must have soundtrack for those who grew up watching this show. Durning this time period, "SPY and THIEF" movies and television shows were all the rage. For example, there was James Bond, The Saint, Get Smart, Our Man Flint, The Pink Panther, The Thomas Crown Affair, Hopscotch, How to Steal a Mission, The Man from U.N.C.L.E, amoung all the others. This style of music was a blend of jazz and early rock & roll. I wonder if this style of music and these shows that had action, some suspense, a touch of romance, and a hint of comedy (or more) will re-emerge ? Yes, "Red" starting Bruce Willis (with many awesome supporting characters), the Ocean series were two such movies.

Nicely Done
Overall, recording quality was better than expected-and much of it in stereo too. Very happy that much my favorite cues and complete suites were included by Goldsmith-and especially the Fried. Bravo!

Because Guy Ritchie was tackling this subject,& also being a big fan of the original television series, I had to have this in my musical collection. Its great to hear this music unfettered from the TV pictures, & get to appreciate the themes in their fullness. For me, however the cherry on the cake, is all four season's interpretation of the brilliant Jerry Goldsmiths theme.Lalo Schifrin's arrangement being the best.(In my humble opinion), Its an absolute tragedy that Guy Ritchie did not include either the original, or a modern update to this excellent score in his big screen re-make. It was as crucial to the TV show, as the Bond theme by Monty Norman/John Barry was/is to 007.This is a superb CD. Now where did I put my Lava lamp?

Walk down memory lane and was a big fan of the series back in the late 60's and early 70's. Preferred the early series, which this Jerry Goldsmith music was the one rembered.
