So Your Bitch Is Pregnant: Raising Your First Litter of Puppies From Pregnancy to Placement

Entertaining and comforting, but not comprehensive
While the stories are charming and the book conveyed an overall sense that dogs are very resilient and can survive a wide range of human incompetence (which was comforting!) I was disappointed by the lack of concrete clear advice or instructions for handling different situations. I definitely had to do a lot more research after reading this book. Not sure if it was worth the price.

A must have for every pet parent getting a new puppy!
Eleanor Green Winters' book "So Your Bitch is Pregnant" is a must buy and read for every pet parent getting a new puppy, regardless if this is your first puppy or fifth. Such an easy to read and understand book with helpful tips and great reminders of the too short, but incredibly impressionable time of puppy hood.As I was getting ready to adopt my second Dalmatian, Eleanor's book was suggested to me and it was money well spent. The information reassured me that I was on the right track with questions and concerns I was having about adopting from a breeder. What questions to ask and why it is okay to ask such questions. In addition, the helpful training tips have been crucial. Training start with the new pet parent the moment they puppy comes home, not a week or a month later, NOW. A small puppy today can be a 60lb nightmare in a few months if not trained. Think of this book as your guide to be the best teacher possible and your student is your puppy. Here's your lesson plan. The only things missing from this book are lots of pictures of the Dalmatian puppies from Eleanor's many litters over the years. I find that this book is on my desk and being used all the time as I keep referencing it. I would highly recommend this book for you or to give as a gift to an expecting pet parent.Best wishes on your newest family member. Wet noses and puppy kisses.

So helpful and to the point!
I have been searching for someone to help me breed since I bought my AKC Dalmatian puppy 2 years ago. Now my Dalmatian Bitch is due in just a few short weeks with her first litter and my first litter! My vet suggested a book that was out of print to learn more about the process of puppies being born. I am so thankful I found this GEM of a book!! It is straight to the point, easy to read, funny, and honest. It was refreshing to read a no nonsense book with practical information I will use and have already been implementing! (Hence the kiddie pool you can see in my picture, It is our Bitch's whelping area smack in the middle of our front room so my Pepper can begin to nest and get ready to whelp!)What are you waiting for get this book and it is one you will keep on the shelf and refer to for each litter because it is just THAT helpful!

Very helpful
I used this book to guide me through my first litter of puppies. I purchased this book while my bitch was still pregnant and it helped me a lot! I absolutely loved it. So much that it makes me want to purchase one of your pups! I love all dogs no matter breed and had a Dalmatian when I was first brought home from the hospital. My first litter was with Dobermans though. This book answered a lot of questions and helped me make a lot of decisions throughout this process. The only thing I wish was different was the weaning process chapter. I would have liked a little bit more of an understanding of how much to feed gruel and how often and at what point they should be completely off the mom and on dry puppy food. Overall a fantastic book and easy read and very very helpful. I love it!

Best book out there for owners and breeders!
This book is a gem- whether you are an owner or a breeder 😍 I highly recommend it! As a breeder, one thing I’ve found helpful is to recommend this to new puppy families while they are waiting on their puppy so they can better understand the process and all that goes into breeding and raising a well adjusted puppy! It has helped new owners ten fold bridge the gaps to unanswered questions and even helped me laugh at myself (with those moments of —-> thank goodness I’m not the only one to have experienced that!) 🤣❤️ Easy, informative, and amusing read for all.
