Works as intended, just be aware: NOT plug and play
Love this product, it's a cheap alternative to what could have been a very expensive problem. Reading the reviews I was worried this would be a cheap knock off dongle that seems to plague these kinds of devices. However, after using it, I can confirm it works as described and even managed to work connected to a dvi to hdmi converter, which is not how I intend to use it but wanted to test to see if it would work. This device is NOT plug and play, which is why i can see some people being thrown off. When you initially plug the device in, your computer will recognize it as a thumb drive and your second display will not come to life as you might hope. Opening up the device like a thumb drive will reveal an application that will install the drivers, after installing you will be prompted to restart your computer. Upon restart it seems windows defaults it to mirror display which can be changed to extended display in your windows preferences. I can confirm it working on both windows 10 and windows 8.1.As a follow up, in my experience, extended connecting and reconnecting these types of devices tends to limit their life span and can make the internal cables become dislodged, but the fact that I know this device works and that it's relatively cheap for what it does, if it ever did need replacing, i would most definitely buy this model again instead of something more expensive for the same functionality.

Easy to install, working so far.
What I can say about the adapter so far is that the installation is easy and flawless. When its first plugged in, its internal flash partition mounts like any other USB flash or thumb drive and the computer reveals the contents - the driver installer. If the computer's autorun is disabled through settings or by your antivirus, the flash drive will not automatically open. Simply go to "Computer" and open it from there. As for performance, I've only used it for a few hours so not much to say yet. The adapter was recognized by Windows and I tried the different desktop setups: mirrored, extended and output to TV only. They all worked as expected but I noticed an annoying flicker on the TV that I did not have time to investigate. Every minute or so, the signal briefly cuts out for a fraction of a second and then gets restored. Im not sure if its PC-related or an adapter/ driver issue. I hope to fix that soon.I give it 4 stars because it works and a device like this cant really be expected to be fully plug and play. There's no way Windows (or any OS for that matter) will automatically have all possible peripheral drivers available for situations like this.

New version 2.0 driver works with Windows 10 (Nov 2016)
The drivers linked to from the description (version 1.1.316.0 as of 11/18/16) did not work at all for Windows 10 for me. It made my screen resolution very large on my main monitor plugged into HDMI port (changed it to 800x600 from 1920x1080). The secondary monitor plugged into the device did not function at all, even after a restart. I could not reset my main monitor back to 1920x1080 until I uninstalled the driver.I did some searching and found the latest 2.0 Drivers from Fresco's support site (support.frescologic.com) and can confirm this driver does work with my system using Windows 10. I have one monintor plugged in via HDMI and the secondary monitory plugged into this USB display adapter/dongle.-I uninstalled previous driver and restarted my system (everything back to normal)-unplugged the Mini HD usb display dongle-Installed the latest driver Driver FL2000-2.0.32505.0 from support.frescologic.com (NOTE: This driver file downloads as an .htm file. You have to rename the file and remove the .htm so the file ends in .exe, otherwise it will not launch the installation, it will just open up a web browser)-After successful install of the new driver, I plugged in the mini hd with monitor connected via hdmi cable. At this point the secondary monitor still did not work (blank screen)-Rebooted windows. Secondary monitor came on, with primary display automatically set to extend to second monitor (all good at this point).Yes there's a little bit of finagling you have to do to get this working but at this point I'm happy. Deducted one star for the published driver not functioning and having to find my own driver and rename the drive file.

USB to HDMI.
did not come with instructions. Package said it did. does not do what it says it is supposed to do and I don't think it is compatible with Windows 10. It freezes and locks up the screen. Now I'm wondering why other brands cos $70. and this one was $19.00 My hard drive spun continuosly for unknow reasons as if it was dwonloading or trying to open. I had to end it. I guess one out of two isn't bad. Not a big amazon fan and I guess this solidifies this feeling.

GARBAGE
Garbage! Save your time/money and don't buy this adapter. There's a reason it's so cheap compared to other models. Installation is simple enough, the driver comes on the device itself. But the display quality (at least for the version I purchased) is very poor. It defaults to resolution 800x600 and cannot be adjusted. Also, the software has somehow corrupted my main monitor's graphics and now the top 2 inches of the screen flashes with pixilated distortion - similar to when satellite TV loses signal during a storm. Hopefully, this will correct itself when I uninstall this garbage device and its driver. Did I mention that it's garbage?

Not plug and play and comes with no drivers. Then still might not work.
Item installs incorrect drivers when inserted into computer. The correct drivers are in the questions area of the product listing but after installing them the item still did not work. Threw an error stating the usb controller could not do high speed. My system has USB 3.0 and runs everything fine, its not old .I am running windows 10 so this product and its driver might work but its a hit or miss I guess from the reviews.
