Shockaholic

Where it was funny, it was hilarious! Where it was heartfelt, it was heartbreaking! Had a very honest feel to it, particularly the chapter about her father. It was quite short, and didn't delve as much into her mental illness as I would have liked. Despite the title, not too much of the book was about her illness or treatment. I mean, I don't think there is really all that much to say about ECT (she described it quite well, though), but I would have liked a bit more on bi-polar disorder. There was some reused material from Wishful Drinking (the show, haven't read the book). I enjoy her style, and think she had a particularly lovely way with words.

I love her sassy confidence and she did warn the reader in the beginning of the book that it was all about "me". but I had already bought it on Amazon. If I was in a bookstore I would have put it back on the shelf. I felt like I was listening to a monologue of life experiences that were well practiced stories. If you took out the celebrity's names, the events were nothing extraordinary. Her sassy commentaries of her experiences made me turn the page in addition to the hope that it would, at some point, all come together. Also, I wondered if this is what it is like to be a therapist, listening to a client.

This was an interesting read. However, I hoped there would be more focus on the disorders that she suffered from.

It arrived very fast. It's in excellent condition.

Another view of mental healthcare or the lack of it in this country. De-stigmatizes mental illness as one which, like any other illnes, needs a REAL cure and not just talk therapy...meds and the correct ones at that, must be used and monitored by doctors who KNOW what they are doing!

Funny read. Learned a few things about Carrie's life I never knew. Read it in a few hours.
