The Mountbattens

The Mountbattens – Lord Louis Mountbatten and Lady Edwina Mountbatten – hold special place in the history of India since they helmed the administration at a very crucial time of the Independence and partition of India. The charisma of the couple has remained undiminished and the new royal biography, which promises to be quite revealing, is if not that, certainly has exhaustive information about the couple which catalysed the departure of the British and tore asunder the subcontinent. A peep into the lives of the Dickie, a prominent figure who not only was the Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces in South East Asia but also was the last Viceroy of India and the first Governor-General of Free India is of huge academic interest; & Lady Edwina, on the other hand, wielded glamorous wand and was an enigma about her bond with the first Prime Minister. Those interested in the history of India may find the read worthwhile.

Terribly verbose and boring....big mistake to have bought it.

Books is very good but was not handled properly. Looks like it was dropped in water or mud. Please see the pictures I posted.

A fascinating life story, a biography that is well researched and written in an interesting narrative! Any reader interested in the times and circumstances of the Royals would be delighted to read this book. I really liked the fact that the author attached a number of pictures from the past that made the characters and events even more tangible. Overall, a book revealing many facets of the Lives of the Mountbattens.

It was interesting but considering the subject matter, it was rather dry. Not much build up to great events, just sort of plodding along.
