Brilliant about Guthrie but also the Nazi influence on racing pre war!
Half way through it!A really excellent read it not only discusses the great mans life both racing and personal background , put also goes into detail about racing both bikes and cars in Europe pre war and the very significant influence the Nazi had especially in Germany but plainly at most international race meetings. So the book paints a picture of the environment Guthrie raced in at home and abroad not forgetting his phenomenal success at TT in the IOM and other notable races , although not from Hawick i live very near and this man is in the modern parlence a Legend locally!

Great book
Bought this for my husband, as he's mad about motorcycles and he's scottish.the only down side is it doesn't come with a dust jacket, me being picky , and the price is a little high ,but it's for husband's 60th so didn't mind too much

Jimmie G throws another perspective on Europe in the 1930's focusing on motorcycle racing
Paul Guthrie looks at likely the best motorcycle racer, Jimmie Guthrie, in the mid 1930's with a new perspective on his tragic death in 1937. With access to German files not utilised previously & from the time, he views not only the perplexing view of his crash but examines the Nazi Germany aspect and their attempt to promote the Aryan cause and its likely effect of events. Other English riders who traveled to European GPs to race are looked at in context with the revelation that most were on the Gestapos Black List...the Sonderfahndungsliste G.B, a fact I never knew. Its a great read & a book you can pick up and read on from any section.... Of course if you are a Norton motorcycle enthusiast it is a "Must" for your bookshelf...I've actually several on mine & have purchased several copies for friends in the Australian Velocette Owners Club....
